This has been so much more expansive from Uruguay. They registered narrow 1-0 wins in their first two group games, but they could have had three or four in this first half so far.

SUAREZ WAS THROUGH! A long ball from deep releases Suarez through on the Russian goal, but Ignashevich does really well to get back and make the last-gasp tackle.

GREAT CHANCE FOR URUGUAY! That probably should have been a third goal for the South Americans. Akinfeev makes the save from Bentacur and Cavani was robbed of the rebound.

Cavani is clattered into and Smolnikov and is shown a yellow card.

Russia have actually played quite well in the opening 25 minutes of this match, but Uruguay have made the most of their chances. Russia need to be better from set pieces.

In the other game being played in this group right now, Salah has given Egypt the lead over Saudi Arabia. Of course, that doesn't have any real effect on the outlook of the standings.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Uruguay 2 (23 mins - Diego Laxalt) Russia 0. Uruguay have scored a second! A corner kick was half-cleared to the edge of the box, but Laxalt was on hand to send a shot towards the goal. His strike picked up a huge deflection, completely wrong-footing Akinfeev. Russia have it all to do.

However, there have been questions posed of the Russian team. They have covered more ground than any other side at this World Cup, and by some distance. Some have questioned that given the country's recent history of doping in sport.

You have to admire the tenacity with which Russia chase the ball when they are out of possession. They are right on top of Uruguay as soon as they lose it. No time for them to settle.

HEADER OVER! Dzyuba gets on the end of a corner kick and heads towards goal. But he directs his effort down into the ground and the ball bounces over the Uruguay crossbar.

Cheryshev is once again the main man for the Russians. The Villarreal winger has been in great form over the past two games and has started well once again this afternoon.

It will be interesting to see if Uruguay now try to suffocate this game as they normally do. Or whether, with their last 16 fate secure, they will attempt to be slightly more expansive.

Fair play to Russia, they have responded well since losing that opening goal. They are flooding forward on the attack whenever they get the ball past the halfway line. Very open game.

This might be something of a dead rubber, with both teams already qualified for the last 16, but this match is being played with a great intensity and tempo. Entertaining stuff so far.
