Yup, the Brit takes it with a time of 1:44.231. So that sees Ricciardo into second and Rosberg third. Ricciardo was on the intermediates while the Mercedes were on full wets.

Rosberg was quickest in the middle of all that madness with Vettel’s teammate Ricciardo in second and Alonso third.

Button, who always excels at Albert Park, scuttles round in a time of 1:44.437 to make a Brit one-two at the top of the sheets but Ricciardo supersedes that almost immediately with a 1:44.031. Track beginning to dry out now.

Scrap that! Hamilton goes fastest with a time of 1:44.662; while teammate Rosberg is in second with a 1:44.938.

Bottas, who, of course, has that five-place grid penalty, goes quickest with 1:45.689 as the Mercedes struggle to show any kind of wet weather pace.

Ricciardo is again at the head of the timesheets with a time of 1:46.646 – Hamilton makes a 1:47.556 while Jenson Button’s 1:48.950 sees him into 10th.
