If the rain becomes heavier, we may not see much change in the times. Hamilton goes quickest with a 1:16.080.

Some drivers are having problems with the final chicane and Paul di resta cuts across it. Di Resta has also reported drops of rain on his visor and Nico Hulkenberg’s mechanic has warned him that the final corner is slippery.

A few drops of rain have started to fall, which is why there are so many cars currently on the circuit.

There is only one DRS zone in place at Montreal this weekend, the straight before the start finish line.

Precious little incident so far but Senna runs wide across the grass at turn nine. No serious issue for him though.

The tyres are beginning to come to the drivers and the Lotus boys are swapping best times. Rosberg is the new fastest man with a 1:16.837.

Grosjean has gone quickest again with a 1:17.386, marginally quicker than his team-mate.

With Montreal boasting a mix of long straights and tight hairpins, tyre wear will be tested this weekend. It’s also an extremely demanding circuit on brakes.

It’s possible we may see super softs in action with rain expected later.

Raikkonen betters the mark with a 1:18.703.

So Grosjean is top of the timesheets with a 1:20.295, marginally quicker than Raikkonen’s 1:20.347.

He is joined on the circuit by Sergio Perez, Jean-Eric Vergne and Romain Grosjean.

Kimi Raikkonen is bidding to be that seventh winner and is out on the circuit. No driver yet to set a competitive time, however.

Our resident expert Will Gray thinks there could be a seventh different winner in as many races.

Williams have brought a new rear wing to Montreal and are using a black light to analyse its performance.

Button, who won in Australia, is the only driver to have completed two laps.

After their initial installation laps, all the cars are now back in the pits.

The ambient air temperature is 21 degrees Celsius and track temperature is 22 degrees. All cars on the soft compound early on.

Ferrari have a new exhaust on Felipe Massa’s car. As usual, there is a flurry of action with all the cars taking to the circuit for their initial installation laps.

The free practice session is underway. Pirelli have bought the same red super soft and yellow soft compounds as in Monaco.

The big news is that Red Bull have been forced to redesign the floor of their car subject to an FIA clarification of the rules.
