Right, well that's the end of the first session. Lewis Hamilton leads the way early on. It's a sweltering evening in Singapore, but the teams have plenty more work to do. We are back for 90 minutes (hopefully) more practice at 14:30 UK time. Join us then.

The chequered flags are out as 15-odd cars chareg round on one final hot lap.

And we're off again. The cars are queuing in the pit lane hoping to get a couple of sharp laps in.

The kerbing is being removed very quickly, and we hope to be back under way for the last knockings of a largely shambolic session.

RED FLAG! More kerbing has come loose between turns seven and eight. This is a real embarrassment for race organisers. It's the same problem that caused the session to be delayed by 30 minutes.

Great lap from Lewis Hamilton! He puts four tenths on Vettel with a 1:48.599. Exciting stuff, not that it will mean much in the context of the weekend.
10'
Lewis Hamilton slots into second place with a 1:49.515 lap - Webber has had his wing replaced and is back out on track. He lies third.
12'
And faster again from Vettel. 1:49.005 - absolutely cracking pace.
15'
Oh, that's even faster from Sebastian Vettel. 1:49.656 from the German, who does not even appear to be trying very hard. Sickeningly good.
16'
Everybody has clocked a flying lap. Bottom of the pile is HRT's Daniel Ricciardo, who is still getting used to the car - which he has described as "a bit pointy". The Australian is 11 seconds off the pace.
19'
And now Vettel goes fastest - 1:50.082, which bests button by nearly nine tenths of a second!
23'
Jenson Button finally gets on the timesheet - 1:50.952 for the Briton and that is the fastest of the day by over a second.
27'
The more OCD-inclined among you may be pleased to discover Rubens Barrichello has managed to stop the clock at precisely 2:00.000.
28'
And off we go again... incidentally, five drivers have yet to record a timed lap - Kamui Kobayashi, Jarno Trulli, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
29'
It has been a frustrating session alright - Sergio Perez has been the most active driver today, clocking up nine laps.
30'
The clock continue to tick as Kovalainen's Lotus is hoiked off the track.

FIRE!! Heikki Kovalainen has another fire, and this time it's the brakes. He gets out unscathed and shows a marshal to the problem. And the red flag is out until this mess can be cleared up.

CONTACT! Webber collides with Timo Glock as he tries to squeeze past the Virgin driver! He had been trying to get past Glock for some time, but the German was under no obligation to make way and Webber has lose a bit of his front wing!

How they stand: 1-Massa, 2-Webber, 3-Sutil, 4-Di Resta, 5-Petrov, 6-Senna, 7-Schumacher, 8-Alguersuari, 9-Kovalainen, 10-Maldonado.

The floodlights are on as a lovelty sunset engulfs the Marina Bay circuit. It may not be every driver's favourite, but it creates a great spectacle.
