Ben Hanley gets Formula E call-up

As revealed by Autosport, McLaren Formula 1 test driver Turvey will miss the May 21 race in the centre of the German capital after renewing his factory Super GT deal with Honda.

Hanley, an ex-Renault development driver and the 2007 Formula Renault 3.5 runner-up, said he was excited to make his Formula E debut.

"The technology in Formula E is very different to any other racing series," he said, "so it will be a challenge to get to grips with a very unique type of car, but I will be giving it my all to deliver the best possible result for the team."

The 31-year-old will race in the European Le Mans Series this season with the DragonSpeed LMP2 team, his first campaign in car racing since a race-winning Superleague Formula effort in 2010.

NEXTEV president Martin Leach said Hanley, who returned to karting as a paid professional after his single-seater career finished, was the "perfect" Turvey replacement.

"We are delighted to welcome Ben to the team for the Berlin race," Leach said.

"Although it is Ben's first experience of racing in Formula E, we are confident that he has the right skills and attitude to do a good job for the team."
