Tiger Woods has said he had no intention of causing offence after he was seen handing playing partner Justin Thomas a tampon during the first round of the Genesis Invitational. “It was just friends having fun and, as I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I'm sorry. It was not intended to be that way," the 15-time major winner said.

Woods 'sorry' about tampon incident with Thomas

Tiger Woods has apologised for handing playing partner Justin Thomas a tampon during the Genesis Invitational.
The incident occurred during the first round of the event when, on the ninth hole, Woods attempted to discreetly pass the product to his playing partner.
The two men shared a brief laugh before Thomas dropped the tampon to the ground.
Woods was asked to explain his thoughts behind it at a press conference following his round on Friday.
“Yeah, it was supposed to be, you know, all fun and games,” he said. “But obviously it hasn't turned out that way.
“It was just friends having fun and, as I said, if I offended anybody in any way, shape or form, I'm sorry. It was not intended to be that way.
“It's just, you know, we played pranks on one another all the time and, virally, I think this did not come across that way, but between us, it was different.”
After suffering serious leg injuries in a car crash in 2021, Woods has been restricted in the number of competitive appearances he can make as he continues a lengthy recovery process.
Competing in his first competitive PGA Tour event since missing the cut at The Open last July, Woods was in a group with PGA Championship winner Thomas and Rory McIlroy.
The 15-time major winner, who is hosting the event at the Riviera Country Club in California, carded a two-under-par 69 in the first round to sit five shots off leaders Keith Mitchell and Max Homa.
However, a 74 in his second round sent him tumbling down the leaderboard. The second round was not completed due to darkness, but Woods is set to make the cut and will play the weekend.
