UFC president Dana White has revealed some exciting pay-per-view plans for a numbered card fight taking place in England.
White exclusively revealed the plans to TNT Sports in an interview with Adam Catterall, and says the success of Tom Aspinall and Leon Edwards means that it was impossible to ignore the prospect of having another stacked card on these shores.
“I have an English heavyweight champion [Aspinall] and lots of other European stars,” White told TNT Sports.
“There are two champions now out of England, so we have these teams that build all their different pieces to the puzzle.
“Then we come together with me, and then I start trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together.
“I have got great fights lined up for the UK fans, and I'm excited to get back there.”
When asked about the timing surrounding an announcement for an English card, White replied: “Literally days, we’re right there working on the stuff. We got some bad-a** plans for England.
“It’ll be a numbered, pay-per-view card.”
White then turned his attention to Aspinall, and has not ruled out the prospect of an interim heavyweight title defence in light of Jon Jones’ current injury.
Jones holds the UFC heavyweight title, but is still to fight Stipe Miocic in a yet-to-be rescheduled title defence.
“Who knows when they [Jones and Miocic] will fight?” White added.
“It's not right to let Tom sit and if he wants to defend the title, we’ll absolutely do it.”
Meanwhile, the build-up is well underway ahead of UFC 300 in Las Vegas with a card that is headlined by Alex Pereira's light-heavyweight title defence against Jamahal Hill.
White explained just how high the bar has been set for this card as anticipation continues to grow.
“When you look at UFC 300, we have 12 former and current UFC champions or interim champions.
“There are seven pound-for-pound fighters, and almost every single fight features a rank contender.
“There are 16 ranking fighters in total, and it's expected to break every record at the T Mobile Arena with a $15 million gate. So, UFC 300 is the greatest combat sports card ever assembled.”
