250s: Barbera back on song

Hector Barbera returned to the top of the timesheets during free practice for the 250cc German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring.

Pepe World Aprilia rider Barbera, winner of the season-opening Qatar Grand Prix and on pole for the last two events, finished 0.461 seconds clear of reigning world champion Marco Simoncelli's Metis Gilera.
The session took place in dry but overcast conditions following the rain which affected both the 125cc and MotoGP run-outs.
Mattia Pasini was a fraction slower than Simoncelli in third for Team Toth with fellow Aprilia rider Alex Debon rounding out a top four covered by 0.530s.
World championship leader Hiroshi Aoyama was seventh for Scot Honda with title rival Alvaro Bautista, who crashed after hitting the back of Aoyama last time out at Assen, only 11th.
The Aspar challenge was led by reigning 125cc world champion Mike di Meglio in fifth.
