'IT'S NOT ENOUGH' SAYS LAMARO
Here's what Italy captain Lamaro had to say about the slender defeat.
"It's always hard when you are that close and can't get the win. We played a good first half, start of the second half we conceded a little too much," Lamaro told ITV.
"I'm proud of the boys, we always fight for each other and that's the most important thing, but there's a lot we can do better.
"We need to build pressure, generally the 20 minutes after half-time we struggled to get out of our half.
"It's not enough. We need to keep pushing and build on this performance. We know we are that close, but there's still lots we can do better."

ROOTS ON 'SURREAL' DEBUT
England debutant Roots was named man of the match after an eye-catching debut performance, and this is what he had to say to ITV.
"It is pretty surreal! Words cant describe it - it is special," Roots said.
"Steve [Borthwick] just said bring your point of difference and bring that into the team.
"Of course you will be nervous on you debut, we know the Italians are passionate and they never go away, but luckily we come away with the win.
"I think we stayed in the fight but full credit to the Italians they stayed in it and it was a great game."

ENGLAND HOLD OFF ITALIAN SURGE TO END WAIT FOR OPENING DAY WIN
England survived a storming Italian start to earn their first opening-day Six Nations win in five years by beating the Azzurri 27-24 in Rome.
Tries from Alessandro Garbisi and Tommaso Allan either side of an Elliot Daly score helped give an impressive Italian side a three-point half-time lead on head coach Gonzalo Quesada’s debut.
But Alex Mitchell danced over the line early in the second half to edge England ahead for the first time, and George Ford’s boot kept the scoreboard moving as the visitors stifled their opponents and moved 10 points ahead.
Monty Ioane turned on the afterburners with the clock red to score Italy’s third try and ensure an encouraging Italian performance was at least rewarded with a losing bonus point.
For England, making their first appearance since finishing third at the World Cup, they escaped Rome with a victory but without a precious try-scoring bonus point after a performance full of grunt but still lacking in longed-for flair.

TRY! ITALY 22-27 ENGLAND (IOANE)
They've done it! Incredible from Italy as they finish with a flourish to secure the losing bonus point in style.
A long series of phases, including offloads, cross-kicks and more, ends with Ioane turning on the afterburners on the right wing and gliding past English defenders to dive over the try line.
Garbisi slots the conversion and that's that.

ITALY HOLD ON
Italy win a penalty from the scrum. They still have a losing bonus point to play for here, but they've got a long way to go, Garbisi kicking them up to the 10m line in their own half. Next stoppage ends the game.

LAMARO IN THE BIN
England go searching for a third try as Cunningham-South again carries hard, but they're held off. They win a penalty and kick to the corner.
Here comes the maul rolling forward. Care takes it out the back and tries to go himself, but he's hauled down. England keep coming and Italy hold them off, but at the expense of their captain Lamaro, who is sent to the bin and we will finish with 14 v 14.

ENGLAND IN GOOD POSITION
Cunningham-South goes on a powerful break down the left wing but he's shepherded out of play. Italy try to run it out from their own 22, but the move unravels and England have a lineout 10m from the Italian try line.

STEWARD FIELDS WELL
Fantastic take from Steward as he gathers a dink over the top with three Italians haring towards him at full speed. England manage to clear to halfway.

PENALTY - ITALY 17-27 ENGLAND (FORD)
England win another penalty, this time in a central area around 30 metres out. Ford sends it sailing through, and the visitors have some breathing space for the first time, with a 10-point lead heading into the final 15 minutes.

SCRAPPY STUFF
No. After a couple of phases it's knocked on by Ioane and England have a scrum back where we started. It's all a bit scrappy out there.
61'
SCRUM TO ITALY
The officials change their mind and give the lineout to Italy! They can't secure it but are grateful for an English knock-on, so now we will have the scrum.
They launched that Ioane break off the back of a scrum, so let's see if they've got anything up their sleeves here.
60'
CARE ENTERS
Care replaces Mitchell for England, who have a lineout just inside their own half.
We're into the final quarter and it's still anyone's game...

ALLAN MISCUES
Oh dear. That's a costly error from Allan, who has had a great game so far, as he slices a kick wide.
