Saturday July 1

14:10

Here's the moment 11th Hour sealed victory in the Grand Finale.

13:50

It's victory for 11th Hour! The American-flagged team make a decisive late move to finish off a memorable Ocean Race campaign in style, adding the In-Port series title to their overall victory.
Malizia take second place, with Biotherm third and Holcim-PRB coming in last.

13:45

As was the case in the VO65 race, this will be a one-lap contest. Malizia are 56m in front heading towards the finish line...

13:36

There's a battle going on between Biotherm, 11th Hour and Malizia at the front. The boats are spread from one end of the course to the other as they go hunting for wind leading up to Mark 3.

13:25

Slow going out there...

13:18

We're off! The conditions are very, very slow again. Malizia are the early leaders, followed by Biotherm and 11th Hour, while Holcim-PRB are lagging quite far behind.

13:08

The start has been pushed back to 13:15 due to a wind shift.

13:00

The IMOCAs are in the start area with the Race Committee reporting 5 knots of wind on the race course. They are trying for a two lap race course.

12:55

Are you ready? It's almost time for the final race of the 2023 Ocean Race as the IMOCA fleet compete for In-Port glory in Genova.

12:10

An imperious win for Team JAJO. Next up, the IMOCA fleet. They will start in one hour's time, at 13:10.

11:40

Team JAJO take the win! After news comes through that the first lap would also be the last, JAJO cruise through to complete a dominant performance.
Mirpuri-Trifork come second, with Viva Mexico third. Austrian Ocean Racing / Team Genova take fourth, finishing just ahead of last-placed WindWhisper.
A disappointing end for WindWhisper, but they still finish safely well within the timeframe to keep them top of the In-Port leaderboard.

11:32

Team JAJO are still in front going around Mark 3 of Lap 1. It's still slow going out there on the Ligurian coast.
Mirpuri-Trifork Racing are second, with a decent-sized gap separating them from both JAJO in front and the chasing pack of three boats: Viva Mexico in third, Austrian Ocean Racing / Team Genova fourth and WindWhisper last, around two-and-a-half minutes off JAJO's pace.

11:19

WindWhisper are in trouble! They make contact with the buoy at the first mark, which means they have to take a 360 degree penalty turn. They are currently in last place and a long way behind leaders Jajo, who are heading towards mark three.

11:12

Our commentary team are pointing out that the only way WindWhisper don't finish top of the In-Port standings today is if Team Jajo win and they get timed out in this light breeze. At the moment, Jajo are in front and WindWhisper are struggling a bit in third as they slowly approach the first mark.

11:05

The VO65 fleet is off! The light breeze could be a challenge for the teams today. The final race of The Ocean Race 2023 is underway.

10:45

The latest weather update from the Race Committee: "Reporting 4-6 knots of wind in the race course area."

10:20

Only 45 minutes to go until the VO65 fleet races for the final time in the 2023 Ocean Race!
The boats have docked out and are on their way to the race area already.

09:40

Some news on the weather - the forecast is for sunny, light and variable conditions, 3-7 knots.

08:45

The 2022-23 Ocean Race reaches sees its final act on Saturday with the In-Port Race in Genova.
The In-Port Race series winner is still yet to be decided in the IMOCA fleet, although the results will not now affect the overall results of The Ocean Race.
WindWhisper Racing Team have and unassailable lead in the VO65 In-Port Race series, but for pride or for bragging rights, all teams will be in it to win this final race.

Watch the moment 11th Hour Racing Team are confirmed as winners of The Ocean Race

16:40

The champion boat is now at their dock, and it's party time with family, friends and colleagues all coming onboard.
They are the first American team to win The Ocean Race, and together with that piece of history, Francesca Clapcich is the first Italian ever to triumph.

16:30

It's quite the scene in the port of Genova as 11th Hour Racing Team are arriving to a packed welcome...stream it above now!

16:20

After the long, uncertain wait for confirmation on their fate, the last few hours have been pure relief for 11th Hour Racing Team...

16:10

How about some feelgood vibes between the top two?

15:50

The moment is nearly upon us!

10:35

11th Hour Racing Team are now officially The Ocean Race 2022-23 champions! No team lodged an appeal so it is now confirmed.
Let's hear from victorious skipper Charlie Enright shall we?
“I’m absolutely ecstatic,” commented Skipper, Charlie Enright (USA). “This race takes everything out of you - emotionally, mentally, and physically. I’m incredibly proud of our whole team who have worked tirelessly for three years to get to this point. There have been highs, some incredible highs, but also lows that have knocked us all, but they were all worth it to hear this news today.
“When we launched our campaign in 2019, we never could have anticipated that it would finish in this way. Any sailor will tell you that they want to win races on the water and not in the jury room, and after winning three legs back to back we felt exceptionally strong and confident going into the final leg. We are pleased with the jury’s decision, although we wish we had had the chance to battle it out for this final leg on the water as Holcim-PRB have been exceptional competitors and pushed us all the way.
“To be the first US team to be lifting this trophy is an exceptional honour, and to be sharing the message and showcasing action and innovation for ocean health has made this a truly impactful, global campaign. It’s not the way I would have drawn this up, but the victory is sweet all the same,” Enright concluded.

10:10

11th Hour Racing Team have won The Ocean Race 2022-23!
Well technically in 30 minutes they will have won but they are effectively champions with the news that the World International Sailing Jury has awarded them four points of redress.
That takes them up to 37 points and means they take the victory.
Technically the other teams have 30 minutes from now to request that the hearing is reopened otherwise the results will be finalised.
We will provide updates when we know if any team has followed this route.
And as a reminder you can watch a FREE live stream of the arrival of 11th Hour Racing Team and their celebrations from 16:00 GMT / 17:00 CET.

08:50

We've got our first bit of big news!
The International Jury has ruled that the protest lodged by Team Holcim-PRB is invalid. Now we wait for the results of the Redress.

08:00

Today is the big one!
Yes today is the day we will find out who has won The Ocean Race 2022-23 with the result of the Redress hearing expected today.
That is to allow us to see whether 11th Hour Racing will be awarded points after a collision with GUYOT environnement - Team Europe at the start of Leg 7.
Don't forget though that Team Holcim-PRB, the current leaders of the race, have launched a protest, arguing that 11th Hour were partially at fault for the crash.
We will bring you live updates throughout the day and you can watch a FREE live stream later at 16:00 UK time / 17:00 CET when 11th Hour arrive at the finish line.

Wednesday June 28

16:40

Team Holcim-PRB have filed a protest against 11th Hour Racing.
The protest from Team Holcim-PRB relates to the collision at the start of Leg 7 that ruled 11th Hour Racing and GUYOT environnement - Team Europe out of the leg.
The protest hearing - in which Team Holcim-PRB might try to establish that 11th Hour Racing were partially at fault for the crash - will take place before the redresss hearing on Thursday and could have an impact on the redress hearing and the outcome of it.

12:00

As we mentioned below, 11th Hour Racing Team are making their way to Italy, despite having retired from the leg following their crash with Guyot Environnment - Team Europe.
They are currently off the east coast of Menorca, so still some distance left to go...

10:45

It's the morning after the night before, and there will likely be some sore heads this morning as the crews acclimatise back to dry land following yesterday's culmination to Leg 7.
But there is still plenty yet to be decided, specifically the overall winner of the IMOCA race, with 11th Hour Racing - still making their way to Italy - awaiting a redress hearing tomorrow...

Tuesday June 27

15:30

It is indeed Viva Mexico who take third place in the VO65 class.
That leaves just Austrian Ocean Racing powered by Team Genova and Mirpuri/Trifork Racing Team looking to finish.

15:00

There's still a few VO65 boats out on the water, so the racing is not quite done.
Viva Mexico look as though they are gong to finish in third place.

14:50

So, that's (almost) that then.
Team Malizia win Leg 7 but we wait to see who wins the Ocean Race. That will be decided after the redress hearing later this week.
There's still a bit more to come with the In-Port Race on July 1.

14:37

And Holcim-PRB have made it over the line.
It was a rough final day for the team as they lost the lead and then endured a slow finish.
They come third and will wait to see the result of 11th Hour Racing's redress hearing on June 29.

14:22

Holcim-PRB are still not quite at the line. We have heard from their skipper Benjamin Schwartz, who sounds disappointed with the way things have panned out.
"Biotherm and Malizia were maybe smarter than us. We couldn’t cover them at some point and they managed to escape. After leading the leg for 12 days finishing in the last position in the group is a bit of a disappointment.
"But we are happy to finish here in Genova and it was a great leg, we really enjoyed it.”

13:57

Finally! Biotherm have crossed the line to ensure they will take second place on Leg 7 behind Team Malizia.
Holcim-PRB will finish in third place.

13:23

Biotherm are picking up a bit of speed now. Still not a huge amount but they are sailing faster than Holcim-PRB and it looks like they are going to secure second.

13:08

These last few nautical miles are still proving slow going for Biotherm and Holcim-PRB.
It's Biotherm who have the advantage but both boats are struggling for speed.

12:45

As Team JAJO celebrate their second-placed finish in the VO65 class, the racing continues on the water.
It looks like it's going to be Biotherm taking second place in the IMOCA class ahead of Holcim-PRB, although the speeds of both boats are down.

12:35

There's been a lot of movement over the last 24 hours. Here's how it all unfolded as the boats approached Genova...
picture

The Ocean Race: Race Report I 27/06

12:22

We are set for a close battle for second as there's not much at all between Biotherm and Holcim-PRB.
There are four points up for grabs for second spot compared to three for third place.

12:17

And they've done it.
Team Malizia have gone from third to first to win Leg 7 of The Ocean Race 2022-23. They finish the leg in 11 days, 19 hours, two minutes and 51 seconds.

12:13

Team Malizia have slowed a bit as they approach the finish but their lead isn't in danger.
They have some supporters in boats who have come out to welcome them in.

12:08

Celebrations on board Team JAJO as they cross the finish line and take second place in the leg in the VO65 class.

11:50

The crowd is building on the dock as Team JAJO approach.
Team Malizia are not far behind.

11:35

The first boat into Genova is likely to be Team JAJO, who are competing in the VO65 class.
They are aiming for second place after WindWhisper arrived yesterday.

11:23

It looks like it's going to be Team Malizia leading the IMOCA fleet into Genova ahead of Biotherm and Holcim-PRB.
What this means for the overall standings is still a bit of an unknown as current leaders 11th Hour Racing are waiting on a redress hearing later this week after they crashed at the start of the leg.
As it stands, 11th Hour Racing are two points ahead of Holcim-PRB.

Not long now until the boats arrive in Genova for the last stop on this Ocean Race.

10:55

The latest news is that the speeds have picked up and the leaders are coming in faster.
We could be looking at the first arrivals in around 20-30 minutes.

10:25

They are getting closer. Just 14 nautical miles left for Team Malizia, who lead the IMOCA fleet ahead of Biotherm and then Holcim-PRB in third.

09:30

The arrival times have been pushed back due to the conditions. The live stream will now be starting at midday BST.
Team Malizia, who are leading the IMOCA fleet, have 20 nautical miles remaining.

08:50

There hasn't been too much movement this morning due to light winds.
But we are set for a very close finish as just three nautical miles separate the three IMOCA boats.
The VO65 boats are competing for second place after WindWhisper came home yesterday to claim the Sprint Cup.

08:10

It's arrivals day.
The IMOCA and VO65 boats are closing on Genova and are all expected into port today. You can watch the arrivals live with Eurosport from around 11am BST.
There's been a change in the lead with the IMOCAs as Team Malizia are now ahead of Holcim-PRB.
The latest report from The Ocean Race says: "A long night for our sailors and teams. Extremely light conditions that persist this morning. ETAs are pushed back beyond 1100 am local time now, with the boats within 30 miles (a distance easily covered in a couple of hours) but barely moving."

Monday June 26

22:00

Still as you were - Holcim-PRB, then Biotherm, then Team Malizia - but just 2.6 nautical miles separate the top two now. We're heading for a grandstand finish! Remember: you can watch a free lives tream of the arrival in Genova on this very page from 06:00 BST tomorrow.

17:00

It's still super tight in the IMOCA race to Genova as Holcim-PRB lead Biotherm by 4.7 nautical miles. Team Malizia are firmly in the hunt too, 5.4nm off the lead.

The Ocean Race 2023: Watch the 25/06 Daily Report as the fleet navigate Spanish coastline

16:15

The latest reports say that runaway V065 class leaders WindWhisper Racing Team are expected to arrive in Genova tomorrow, with the remaining race boats coming in the following day.
All the teams have faced challenging conditions since entering the Mediterranean, with some opting to sail east of Majorca and others west.
Team Holcim-PRB headed off towards the Algerian coast before tacking back towards Spain to reconverge ahead of their rivals in the IMOCA fleet.
Crew member Annemieke Bes said: “We were happy with the strategy in the end. We were stressed as there was a huge lateral gap. Anyway, it was good to try to catch the thermal winds a bit earlier.”
Light and variable winds are now expected between where the fleets currently are, towards the south-west of France, and Genova. There's lots still to play for!

The Ocean Race 2023: 24/06 Daily Report

12:30

Things are really ramping up now!

08:30

The racing is absolutely heating up at the moment and WindWhisper Racing Team are already nearing Italy, with the others still along the Spanish coast.

Friday June 23

15:45

In the IMOCA fleet, which is a three boat race, it's so close that each one of Team Holcim PRB, Biotherm and Team Malizia have held the lead on the tracker at some point over the past 24 hours.
As of 2pm UK time, the spread from first to worst is under 10 miles and this three-way match race looks set to continue to the finale in Genova.
"We just entered the Med and it's sure that it is still going to be a long race," said Biotherm skipper Paul Meilhat.
"We are racing really close with Holcim-PRB and Team Malizia and it's been a really good trip around the coast of France, Spain, Portugal and now into the Mediterranean.
"Our feeling is we want to finish the race quickly because we want to win, but at the same time, it is also good to have these extra moments as it's the last leg of The Ocean Race.
"We are going to see some really tricky winds... from Alicante to Genova it seems like all is possible. Maybe the last day will have very light winds so we want to stay close to the others as I think it might all be decided right at the end!"

15:30

All the VO65 race boats are in the Mediterranean sea spread from Europe to Africa. WindWhisper Racing Team, have seen their lead shrink by over 50 miles in the past 24 hours.
They're still ahead by a century in the VO65 Sprint, leading Mirpuri/Trifork Racing Team and Team JAJO by over 100 miles.
But for the first time in days, the trailing boats are making significant gains.
"Basically we've been match racing Team JAJO all day," said Dave Swete from Mirpuri/ Trifork Racing Team.
"They just sort of slam tacked on us, so they've let their intentions be known! But it's also let the Mexican team catch us as well, so it's basically a three boat race (behind WindWhisper)... It's WindWhisper's race to lose now and meanwhile we have a good battle back here."

07:15

Good morning! We bring you the news that there have been some leaderboard changes overnight...
Team Malizia have edged into the lead of the IMOCA fleet, as a compelling three-way battle continues towards the Balearic Islands en route to final destination Genova.
Meanwhile in the VO65s, WindWhisper Racing Team have a sizeable advantage over the rest.
Here's the current lay of the land:
IMOCA
1. Team Malizia
2. Biotherm - 5 nautical miles distance to leader
3. Team Holcim-PRB - 6.4nm DTL
VO65
1. WindWhisper Racing Team
2. Mirpuri/Trifork Racing Team - 131.9nm DTL
3. Team JAJO - 135.6nm DTL
4. Viva Mexico - 137.0nm DTL
5. Austrian Ocean racing powered by Team Genova - 140.6nm DTL

17:50

Windy conditions are expected to ease off in the western Mediterranean, providing a challenge to the fleets as they head for Genova.
Team Holcim-PRB are leading the IMOCA fleet approaching the Strait of Gibraltar, but they are at risk of losing ground to Team Malizia who are further south and could catch them around the outside.
"It's a good opportunity for us to catch up to the others," said Malizia's Will Harris.
"There will be a light wind area and maybe a chance for us to play a card and gain some miles if we find better wind. We'll see what we find."
In the V065 class, it’s looking good for WindWhisper, who have extended their lead to 150 nautical miles over their rivals, with Team JAJO battling Mirpuri-Trifork for second.
"It's been very painful," said JAJO's Jorden van Rooijen.
"On the way to Gibraltar, we've been battling Mirpuri Trifork all night. We had them seven miles behind us and now they just got a little bit of pressure, overtook us, a super-close battle, one boat length apart, and now they're just in front of us...so we have to get them back!"

08:30

Regatta Director Phil Lawrence recently disclosed that the World Sailing International Jury has tentatively set the hearing for 11th Hour Racing Team's Request for Redress on June 29th at 10:00am. The hearing will take place in person in Genova.
The World Sailing International Jury comprises six members.
Since the outcome of the 11th Hour Racing redress hearing may impact the entire fleet, the International Jury is committed to ensuring a fair resolution for all affected boats. Therefore, the aim is to provide the full IMOCA fleet with the opportunity to attend the hearing, express their perspectives, and ask questions.
In accordance with Racing Rules of Sailing 60.3(b), the International Jury will simultaneously consider redress for Team Holcim-PRB, Team Malizia, Biotherm, and GUYOT environnement - Team Europe. This decision stems from the collision that occurred at the start of Leg 7. As a result of the incident, both 11th Hour Racing Team and GUYOT environnement - Team Europe retired from the leg due to damage. Subsequently, 11th Hour Racing Team submitted a Request for Redress.
While the GUYOT team is currently sailing to its home port in France, the 11th Hour Racing Team has repaired its IMOCA and is heading towards Genova with the intention to participate in the final In-Port race of this edition on July 1st.
In sailing, a Request for Redress is a fairly common occurrence, and the procedures for a hearing are well-established. The relevant section in the Racing Rules of Sailing is Rule 62.1, which states, in part, that a request for redress or a protest committee's decision to consider redress should be based on a claim or possibility that a boat's score or position in a race or series has been significantly compromised, through no fault of its own, due to injury or physical damage caused by a boat that was breaking a rule and either took an appropriate penalty or was penalised.
Additionally, Rule 64.3 outlines decisions on redress. When the protest committee determines that a boat is entitled to redress under Rule 62, it must strive to make a fair arrangement for all affected boats, regardless of whether they requested redress. This may involve adjusting the scoring or finishing times of boats, abandoning the race, allowing the results to stand, or implementing some other appropriate arrangement.

Wednesday June 21

19:00

We have a winner! The WindWhisper team were the first boat from either fleet to reach the line of 37-degrees north latitude this morning, landing them the Vasco da Gama Mirpuri Foundation Prize.
Skipper Daryl Wislang and his crew-mates will now head through the Strait of Gibraltar and into the Mediterranean Sea as they zone in on Genova with a lead of at least 90 miles over their nearest VO65-class rivals.
Team Holcim-PRB are still leading the IMOCA fleet, but Biotherm were only 10 miles back earlier and Team Malizia had closed the gap to 33 miles.
"Normally we have some good wind off the coast of Portugal, but now we don't have wind... only about 8 knots," said Biotherm's Portuguese sailor Mariana Lobato.
"Hopefully it comes soon so we can make it downwind, and fast, and have some fun!"

11:30

Good news - the wind has finally picked up! Catch up on today's Race Report as the fleet head down the coast of Portugal.

08:30

Team Malizia skipper Boris Herrmann has explained the broken mast issues for Guyot Environnement - Team Europe and Team Holcim-PRB were simply down to "bad luck" and dismissed any overall safety concerns in The Ocean Race.
He said: "A great fascination of our sport is of course the confrontation with nature and the forces of nature, the storms that we experience along the route. Fortunately, our sport is very safe these days.
"Nobody came to harm, there were no serious injuries. Unfortunately, there were the two mast breaks, but you really have to consider them as isolated incidents. They were individual components that failed and were incorrectly constructed.
"That can now be seen in retrospect. What happened there can be determined exactly. It doesn't even have anything to do with the race or the conditions in detail. It was really bad luck for the two teams.
"Apart from that, it's more of a positive surprise how reliably the five ships mostly got around the world. For us in particular, I would underline that: Team Malizia was consistently in the front in all legs and without any major difficulties. We are very proud of that. And of all the participants, we sailed the shortest cumulative time in this race."

Tuesday June 20

21:00

It has been a frustrating day for all concerned today thanks to light winds.
"It would be nice to be going faster," said Will Harris, whose Team Malizia clawed a few miles back on Team Holcim-PRB and Biotherm.
"It's a long way to Genova. It's not a leg to be underestimated. I think anything could happen right up to the finish. There will be lots of opportunities to catch up.
"It's a lot more tactical in these conditions. You still have to sail the boat as fast as possible and remember that everyone is dealing with the same conditions. It's about how you overcome it."

09:45

It's still Holcim-PRB leading the way for the IMOCAs as they get out of the Bay of Biscay.
The VO65 fleet has already passed already Cape Finisterre (the westernmost tip of Spain) and are sailing along the coast of Portugal.

Monday June 19

18:00

Holcim-PRB now have a fairly healthy lead of 26.25nm over Biotherm, wiith Malizia 43.91nm back from the leaders.
WindWhisper Racing Team are 68.9nm clear of Miripuri/Trifork Racing Team.

14:30

Things are slow going at the moment on the water.
"It's looking very quiet, not so much wind... very slow," explained Nico Lunven fromTeam Maliza.
Yoann Richomme added "We are in the middle of the Bay of Biscay, going west - west!! - to get away from some light winds between France and Spain,
"Then we are going to try to go down south along the coast of Portugal. it will be light this afternoon, then a little bit windier as we turn south to go down but then Portugal looks very, very light.
"Right now we're slow. It's not looking good. Biotherm, is about 55 miles north but we could lose quite a bit today I reckon. We have a bit of an advantage but I think the next hours and days will be very tricky."

11th Hour Racing Team situation recap

11th Hour Racing Team and their skipper Charlie Enright are attempting to repair their boat with the aim of sailing to Genoa after retiring from Leg 7 and submitting a request for redress.
Their boat was damaged when it was hit by GUYOT environnement - Team Europe shortly after the start of the leg in The Hague on Thursday.
The Enright-skippered team were left with a hole in the stern of their boat following the crash and were forced to head back to shore for repairs.
The team suspended racing in Leg 7 on Thursday, and on Friday retired from the leg and submitted a request for redress, which gives the team a chance to secure points in the overall race.
According to the Racing Rules of Sailing "a request for redress or a protest committee’s decision to consider redress shall be based on a claim or possibility that a boat’s score or place in a race or series has been or may be, through no fault of her own, made significantly worse".
The 11th Hour Racing Team shore crew and technical team have been working tirelessly to repair the boat since the crash. The goal is to sail to Genoa and participate in the Grand Finale.
In a team statement, Enright said: “We are working around the clock to repair the boat as quickly as possible, and our intent is to sail to Genoa to rejoin the fleet and complete this lap around our blue planet.
"Everyone is obviously devastated - no one wants to finish a race like this - but spirits are high within the team, and everyone is focused on finishing this incredible race on a high note.”
11th Hour Racing Team had won the past three legs, and had a two-point lead in the overall race over Team Holcim-PRB, who currently lead Leg 7 ahead of Biotherm and Team Malizia in second and third, respectively.
The redress could see 11th Hour Racing Team awarded points by a race jury.

13:30

The five VO65s and three IMOCA boats still racing towards the Grand Finale in Genova are battling light and challenging conditions as they attempt to navitgate the English Channel and start the next section of the race, in more open waters.
At 1000 UTC on Saturday, the VO65 fleet was packed tightly, roughly 50 miles west of the leading IMOCA boat, Team Holcim-PRB.
Team JAJO is nominally leading, ahead of both Mirpuri-Trifork Racing Team and WindWhisper, however with boat speeds below 4 knots, and the distance from first to fifth a mere 15 miles, it will take only a moment's advantage for one team or another to upset the current order.
"It's really light, it's the first big transition of the race," explained Max Deckers on Team JAJO. "We're expecting wind from the west at some point, but until then it's just about using anything we get - looking for wind. That's the main thing."
The IMOCA teams are in the same situation. They've set up slightly further east and south, captain Benjamin Schwartz and his crew on Team Holcim-PRB pulling away from Biotherm (15 miles) and Team Malizia (25 miles).
"We have to find a way through these light winds in the English Channel to the Bay of Biscay," said Malizia's Will Harris.
Marie Riou on Biotherm said: "We are waiting for some good wind," as they looked to catch up.
However the forecast doesn't offer much hope. Light to moderate south-southwesterlies are anticipated, but this would also mean upwind sailing through the Bay of Biscay, which is not the quickest vector of travel.

10:15

Let's hear from Race Chairman Richard Brisius as to what happens now.

'Typically they would give a compensation' - Race chairman Brisius explains jury protocol

08:00

Here's where we stand in what is happening now and what could happen.
  • Three boats are racing towards Genova now.
  • Guyot environnement - Team Europe are out of the leg.
  • 11th Hour Racing Team have been working through Thursday night and will provide an update on Friday morning as to the condition of their boat and whether they can still compete in the leg.
  • We are waiting to see what a jury may decide with regards to the future of the race. It's possible that 11th Hour Racing Team might be awarded "average" points, which would give them the title as the race leaders.

07:00

Let's hear from skipper Charlie Enright speaking on the dock who said, “We did our best to avoid it, and I don’t want to speculate on what was going on on their side of the fence. We protested them as a result, and the Umpires dealt with the Racing Rules of Sailing on the water, and Guyot were black flagged.
“All of that aside, those are the small details. The most important thing is that everyone on their boat and our boat are ok. Where we go from here is uncertain at this stage. It’s life, it’s racing. There is nothing we would have done differently, and accidents happen.
“This race has a way of testing people in different ways - physically and mentally, and this is a test for our team. There is no team I would rather be on, that I would rather have with me. If anyone can figure this out, it is us, I genuinely believe that, we will just have to see what that process looks like as we get more information,” Enright concluded.

Thursday June 15

23:00

According to the latest report from The Ocean Race, 11th Hour Racing Team are "operating on two tracks at the moment".
They are "assessing repair options that could see them resume on the water toward Genova in the coming days, while at the same time, working within the Racing Rules of Sailing and the rules of The Ocean Race to consider how redress may apply (the International Jury may award points to a team unable to race competitively following an incident caused by another competitor)."
It is not known when the jury will make a decision on redress or what happens next.

21:20

As the three remaining boats head towards the English Channel, here are the highlights from today's action.

20:25

Charlie Enright, skipper of 11th Hour Racing Team, has been speaking to us in the harbour.
"We are really glad everybody is OK physically, that’s the most important thing," he said.
"The situation is so unique I am not sure what the next steps are. Not enough time has elapsed to get a good handle on what happens next.
"We are on the precipice of something great and this isn’t going to be the reason we don’t finish the job. Whatever it takes we will figure it out."
We have also heard from race director Phil Lawrence who says there will be a jury hearing.

"I'm very sorry about this," Dutreux said. "I really hope they will get back and win this race... We will try to help them all we can.
"Their boat appeared in front of me and it was too late. It was impossible then to avoid contact (after I saw them). I take all responsibility. It's our fault for sure."

18:30

Well that was dramatic.
We will continue to bring you live updates as we get further news on the status of the two boats in the harbour and what comes next in this leg.

18:03

As 11th Hour Racing Team dock for repairs, the remaining three boats on the water - Team Holcim-PRB, Team Malizia and Biotherm - are heading out for departure.

17:50

What is this going to mean for the race? We are waiting to hear from race officer Bill O'Hara.
Both 11th Hour Racing Team and GUYOT environnement - Team Europe are on their way to the shore.

17:40

17:23

We've caught up with 11th Hour Racing Team skipper Charlie Enright who is expecting a "long and difficult leg".

17:19

Team JAJO win!
There are celebrations on board as the team cross the line in first place.

17:17

It doesn't look like Team JAJO are going to be caught, the finish is in sight for them.

17:10

The commentary team reckon Team JAJO have this wrapped up as they reach the Windward Gate with a healthy advantage.
It certainly looks like it will take something remarkable to catch them.

17:04

Very interesting tactics in this race.
Team JAJO still lead after the Leeward Gate and WindWhisper Racing Team are still sailing on the other side of the course to try and make up ground. Presumably the thinking is that if they just follow Team JAJO they won't catch them, but if they try something different they might.

16:59

This is all going very well for Team JAJO so far. It looked like they might have slowed a bit at the Windward Gate but they still lead by a decent margin from WindWhisper Racing Team as they head back.
Here's how they took the initiative at the start...

Team JAJO make 'dream start' to In-Port race in The Hague

16:52

16:49

Viva Mexico asked for a protest for the start from Team JAJO but the umpires on the course ruled no foul.
Team JAJO are leading ahead of WindWhisper Racing Team and Viva Mexico.

16:43

Team JAJO are flying after their brilliant start. They have pulled well clear of the rest of the boats, who have plenty of water to make up.

16:40

And we are off.
Team JAJO have made a very good start, crossing ahead of the fleet and getting away in perfect time.

16:35

The five-minute countdown has started.
There are a lot of spectators out on the water as the VO65 boats get into position.

picture

Guyot Team Europe take an early lead in the In-Port Race

17:16

Well that was unexpected! Guyot Environnement - Team Europe started the day cut adrift in last place in the In-Port standings, having finished last in the last two races in Newport and Aarhus.
"It was very nice, I'm happy," says delighted skipper Benjamin Dutreux.

17:12

Guyot Environnement Team Europe win! They cross the finish line in first place, but there appears to be some confusion about whether the race is over after two laps - both from the boat and in the commentary box!
11th Hour cross the line in second, with Malizia coming third. Biotherm arrive fourth, with Holcim-PRB in a very disappointing last place.

17:09

Guyot Environnement Team Europe can taste the victory here - they round Mark 3 with a healthy lead still intact, despite 11th Hour's best efforts to catch them.

17:05

11th Hour Racing Team are trying to hunt down Guyot Environnement Team Europe, but still have a gap of 630m or so to make up.
Behind them, Malizia and Biotherm are in a fierce battle for third but Holcim-PRB have been dropped out the back.

17:01

This is some performance from Team Europe - they are now almost 700m in front as they round mark one!
11th Hour Racing Team have now established a gap ahead of the rest in second, with the final three grouped closely together.

16:58

These are the standings at the end of Lap 1:
  • 1. Guyot Environnement Team Europe
  • 2. 11th Hour Racing Team
  • 3. Team Malizia
  • 4. Biotherm
  • 5. Team Holcim-PRB

16:56

Here's a clip of that superb start from the race leaders.

16:54

11th Hour Racing Team get a slightly better rounding at Mark 3 as they look to catch Team Malizia.
Guyot Environnement Team Europe have a healthy lead of 119m as we approach the end of the first lap - is a shock result on the cards here?

16:49

Guyot Environnement Team Europe make it past mark 2 with their lead intact, but Team Malizia have got themselves up into second and are pushing hard to catch up.
Team Holcim-PRB have got off to a poor start here, falling off the foils just after the start, and they have a lot of ground to make up.

16:45

Guyot Team Europe make the best start as they fly clear of the chasing pack, but 11th Hour Racing Team are right on their tail as the boats reach the first mark.
Team Malizia are a little further back in third, with Holcim-PRB and Biotherm lagging behind.

16:40

The gun fires and we're off. And 11th Hour Racing Team edge in front early on - fantastic start, but Guyot Team Europe are up there with them and it's neck and neck!

16:35

Five minutes to go! And it's looking very choppy out there - the Race Committee now has the wind at 15-17 knots.

16:30
