Ronnie O’Sullivan eased into the quarter-finals of the English Open courtesy of a 4-1 win against Eden Sharav in Crawley, as Mark Williams, Neil Robertson and Johns Higgins suffered shock defeats.

The five-time world champion followed up a consummate 4-1 win against Matthew Stevens earlier on Thursday with another dominant display, this time against world number 87 Sharav.

The Rocket produced runs of 76, 72, 59 and 72 on his way to the quarter-final stage but it was performance not without fault.

Sharav, who stunned Liang Wenbo in round two, was afforded chances in all five frames but capitalised only once – with a 64 in frame four - meaning O’Sullivan remains unbeaten this season.

The defending champion will face Honghao Luo in the quarter-finals, who ousted 2010 world champion Neil Robertson 4-3 on a day of shocks at the K2 Centre in Crawley. World number 105 Luo Honghao compiled runs of 69, 56 and 74 to secure the biggest win of his career.

Elsewhere, Mark Davis downed John Higgins 4-2 in a match low on quality while reigning world champion Mark Williams was dumped out by Zhou Yuelong in the third round earlier on Thursday.

Ryan Day produced the performance of the session, compiling two total clearances - a 136 in frame four and 132 in frame six - alongside runs of 52 and 83, on his way to a 4-2 win over Judd Trump.
