Bingham, who by his own admission has been far from his best this week, lost a tight opening frame with Bingtao winning 65-61.
However he responded with a breaks of 73 and 80 to turn it around and lead 2-1.

Bingtao wasn't fazed and battled back to level before the break.
However after the interval the Chinese prodigy, who was talked up by Eurosport's Ronnie O'Sullivan during the break, completely lost his way and started to make a string of errors.

That allowed Bingham to take control and seal a 5-2 win.
He will face either Anthony Hamilton, who beat Barry Hawkins 5-4.
The players went into the break at 2-2 with two half-centuries to Hawkins and one to Hamilton but the former fired in another after the interval to make it 3-2.
Hamilton responded with a 64 but breaks of 61 and 70 in the same frame saw Hawkins pull out in front again.
A dramatic re-spot in the eighth meant Hamilton took it to a decider, which he duly won.
In the other semi-final defending champion Martin Gould will face another former winner, Ali Carter, after they saw off Ryan Day and Tom Ford respectively.
Gould, who hasn't made much of an impact since winning this tournament last year, got off to a flying start with a break of 137 but two breaks of 50 in the third from Day helped him to ensure it was 2-2 at the interval.

Gould won the first two frames afterwards and a break of 60 helped him win the seventh frame to make it 5-2.
Carter, a winner in 2013, secured breaks of 74, 61, 76, 101 and 78 as he won against Ford, who had made a 147 earlier in the tournament.
