Hendry crashes out

Stephen Hendry lost 5-4 to Ali Carter in the quarter-finals of the Malta Cup after playing with a severe stomach complaint. Carter faces Shaun Murphy in the semi final, who beat Graeme Dott 5-2 in their clash.

Carter came back from 4-3 down to win.

Hendry was suffering from gastroenteritis but still won four frames despite clearly looking uncomfortable throughout.

"It's really disappointing," he said afterwards.

"There were times when I thought I wasn't going to be able to play but the injection stopped me feeling quite so bad and I decided to give it a go."

Dott, meanwhile, threw away a 2-0 lead before Murphy crusied to a win that included a 134 total clearance.

Dott said: "Shaun fully deserved to win and if he carries on playing like that he's got a good chance of going all the way here."
