World number one John Higgins went crashing out of round one of the Malta Cup 5-3, after a fine display by Marco Fu. The Wizard of Wishaw began well having potted the black to win a tight first frame, but soon found himself 4-1 down to Fu.

Controversially Higgins conceded the third frame 51-41, despite there being enough points on the table for him to still win.
Fu was then handed a second gift by Higgins with his poor break shot allowing the man from Happy Valley to race into a two-frame lead.
However, a comeback looked possible as Higgins won the sixth frame with a convincing 80-0 and then held his nerve to take the seventh.
But an over-cooked red by Higgins and a series of well-executed shots by Fu allowed the Asian number one to close out the match.
Fu may have slipped to 32 in the world rankings - due to his absence at the Maplin UK Championships because of the Asian Games - but his performance tonight will have his next opponent Allister Carter worried.
Carter was 2-1 down to Rod Lawler, before he took four frames in a row and romped to a 5-2 victory.
