Parrott back from the dead

Veteran John Parrott rolled back the years with a stunning comeback to book a place in the UK Championship. The former world champion was on the brink of defeat at 8-5 down to David Gilbert in final qualifying, but reeled off four straight frames for a 9-8 win.

The 42-year-old TV personality compiled a 53 break under intense pressure in the final frame and is rewarded with a first-round match against Mark Selby in York.
Liu Song and Adrian Gunnell also had to go the distance before sealing 9-8 wins against Drew Henry and Sean Storey respectively. The Chinese Liu sealed victory with a stunning century break.
There were no such problems for Michael Judge, who trounced Peter Lines 9-1 to book an encounter with Joe Perry.
Barry Pinches, Rory McLeod, Rod Lawler and Mike Dunn also made their way into the last 32.
Sunday's qualifying matches see veteran crowd-pleasers Jimmy White and Tony Drago among 16 players in action.
