The five-time world champion avenged last year’s quarter-final defeat to reach Sunday’s final.
Trump took the first two frames but a break of 143 in the fourth helped O’Sullivan level before he moved ahead.
Trump levelled at 3-3 thanks to a break of 109 as the next two frames were shared but O’Sullivan then went 5-4 up.
Trump hit back with a break of 123 but O’Sullivan nabbed the deciding frame.
Yet the Rocket dug deep to claim the next two to make Sunday’s final.
Elsewhere, Shaun Murphy weathered a spirited comeback from Anthony McGill to beat the Scotsman 6-5 in Wales.

The Magician led 2-0 courtesy of runs of 65 and 52 but world number 16 McGill fought back to lead 3-2 following breaks of 86 and 90 before Murphy levelled things with a 105 in frame six.
McGill edged ahead in the seventh but Murphy, who has struggled with back and neck injuries, took frames eight and nine to put himself within one frame of the semi-final.
However, Scotsman McGill rallied with a 107 to send the quarter-final to a deciding frame that Murphy took in two visits with break of 32 and 69.
Murphy will face Mark Williams for a spot in the final.
