Day - "I was just very lucky"

Day now joins the Eurosport team in Swansea. "I was just very lucky that Ashley played the safety up the table and went in-off. It was game over from then."

RESULT - Day 48-20 Carty

Job done for the former shoot-out winner! Carty gets back to the table and thumps home a stunning black, but the pressure was off and he knew it was nothing more than a consolation. Day goes through!

Day 40-12 Carty

Carty is still shaking his head at that error which has gifted Day the match. Ryan is scoring heavily and he can't lose it from here

Day 16-12 Carty

Oh, wow! Day pots a red, but the cue ball gets stuck in a cluster of four of them!! He's snookered and there's absolutely no way out! Four points to Carty, who takes a red and a green to draw level. Seven reds left as he plays safe...or thinks he has, only to go in-off. Ball in hand for Day, this is surely his match now.

Day 11-4 Carty

A lovely shot by Day puts Carty in trouble, with the cue ball in behind the green. He escapes the snooker, but leaves Ryan a pot, which he takes, only to miss the brown! This low-scoring frame is turning into a nail-biting thriller. Three and a half minutes left

Day 10-4 Carty

That leaves the door open for Day to play a tidy little cannon off the red over the green pocket, using it to guide another red home. He accumulates a break of ten to go into the lead, before missing that tricky blue, which is now tight on the left cushion. Four and a half minutes gone

Day 0-4 Carty

The table looks remarkable at the moment. Black tied up, green on the side cushion just below the right middle, blue on the top cushion. Carty having to do a lot of work as he comes back to the table, but misses a red to the green pocket.

Day 0-1 Carty

Good grief! Day's first shot sends the reds scattering! He thinks he's spotted a plant, but gets nowhere near it. The balls career around the table and he's left an opening red for Carty, but he then misses a blue by miles

The conclusion...

So here we go. The final match of the day, and the final match of the second round. We're being graced by a former champion too; home-favourite Ryan Day taking on Ashley Carty, who is going to break

RESULT - Milkins 16-56 Lines

There's a sniff of a Milkins comeback as some terrific pots help him sink two reds and blacks, before he misses a deft cut to the left corner. Lines takes a red, and Milkins offers his hand!

Milkins 0-55 Lines

42 the end break for Lines, before plays safe. Three and a half minutes left. Is there time for a Milkins comeback? Seven reds left on the table, but they're all clustered together. There's nothing to go at.

Milkins 0-40* Lines

Lines gets back to the table with a lovely long red to the right corner, stroked home in a composed manner. He builds a very good break, that looks like it could come to an end when he gets stuck into the pack, only to clip another lovely pot into the left middle. This has been terrific

Milkins 0-13 Lines

A fast and furious start to this one as both players miss fiercely struck long-range efforts, with Milkins ultimately hanging one over the pocket for Lines to pot. He runs out of position on 13 though, so that's where his break finishes

The penultimate match of the evening...

Only two frames to go tonight then, and this is a real intriguing one. Oliver Lines v Robert Milkins, with the Milkman breaking after losing the lag

RESULT - Clarke 42-47 Xu

Oh my goodness! What a comeback! Xu comes back to the table with a minute left and 19 behind. He's got one shot at glory and a stunning red into the left corner gives him a chance at building a break. A pink with seven or eight seconds left takes him into the lead. That is sensational!

Clarke *42-23 Xu

Big problem for Xu, now. Some good safety play from Clarke forces Xu into a long red to the right corner. He misses, and a double-kiss means the cue ball stays up at that end of the table. There's a pot on, which he takes, and he's now eating up every second as he takes each shot. 65 seconds left

Clarke 26-23 Xu

A chance for Clarke, then. He pots the opening red, smashes the pink into the middle and opens up the pack in doing so. A second pink, a very deft cut back, takes him into the lead, although the cue ball has gone up to the baulk end, so he plays safe. Three and a half minutes to go

Clarke 12-23 Xu

No a chance for Xu, who is trying to silence the crowd, who are supporting Welshman Clarke. Again, the balls aren't in favourable positions, so he's being made to work hard. Two reds and two pinks take him into the lead. A third red opens up the path for the black. Five minutes to go and he's now well in the ascendancy, but the break comes to an end when a tough pink to the left middle hits the knuckle

Clarke 12-0 Xu

After the low-scoring last match, a superb opener from Clarke, screwing back to hold for the blue as well. Only a break of 12 though, before he has to play safe, as the pack is pretty tightly compact at this stage

Match 14 underway...

Jamie Clarke v Xu Si in this one, with the former winning the lag and putting his opponent in to break

RESULT - Williams 9-30 Miah

A low-scoring affair, but Miah gets the job done! Some terrific potting and at times really good safety play get him through, but Williams will be kicking himself over that missed pink

Williams 9-23* Miah

The miss from Williams is proving costly! Miah cleans up a red, and then goes into the lead with the pink. He shouldn't lose from here, given four reds are on the top cushion and can't really be potted. Time ebbing away here for Williams

Williams 9-3 Miah

Three and a half minutes to go and this is still anybody's - until Williams plays a stunning safety, getting the cue ball tight in behind the brown. The hit and hope from Miah at least finds a red, but he far from finds a safe spot on the table. Mark pots one ball, but over cuts the pink

Williams 8-2 Miah

Miah is showing his potting class, but he's not had much control of the cue ball. Two terrific reds, but having to play safe off them, means he doesn't do much damage

Williams 8-0 Miah

A wayward long-range effort from Miah gifts Williams an opening, and it really is a sitter, with the red sitting over the corner pocket. He only scores eight though, before missing a red

Next up...

The winner of his one, then, will face young Stan Moody. It's time for Hammad Miah v Mark Williams, with the latter getting some vocal support from the Welsh crowd, as you might expect. Miah will break us off

The last-32 draw

There's still four matches to go this evening, but the (randomised) draw for the last-32, which takes place tomorrow, is in, and it's thrown up some mouth-watering ties:
Jamie Clarke or Xu Si v Oliver Lines or Robert Milkins
Michael White v Joe O’Connor
Duane Jones v Long Zehuang
Hammad Miah or Mark Williams v Stan Moody
Elliot Slessor v Zak Surety
Liam Davies v Dylan Emery
David Lilley v Kyren Wilson
Sanderson Lam v Mark Allen
Mark Davis v Liam Pullen
Ali Carter v Dean Young
Alexander Ursenbacher v Steven Hallworth
Ryan Day or Ashley Carty v Si Jiahui
Graeme Dott v Jimmy Robertson
Iulian Boiko v Anthony Hamilton
Cao Yupeng v Thepchaiya Un-Nooh
Zhou Yuelong v Dominic Dale

RESULT - Zhang 42-49 Surety

Composed match play from Surety to see it out, and he reaches the third round!

Zhang 42-49 Surety

Potting the third of those three reds brings Surety level. He adds the black to go in front. One red left on the table, off of which he plays safe. Seven points ahead with one minute left

Zhang 42-34* Surety

No wizardry on this occasion from Zhang, who again goes into the pack, but this time fails to bring anything out. So he has a lead of 32. Can Zak hit back in the three minutes remaining? The time is there and there are three reds out in the open between the pink and black. He's favourite from this position

Zhang *39-19 Surety

Crikey, what a shot that is from Zhang. The red missed by Surety is cleaned up, and he takes the brown, sending the cue ball up the table into the pack. One comes loose, and he cleans up. That was fantastic. The break is still going too. Four minutes left, 20 points the lead

Zhang 17-19 Surety

So, a chance for Zhang, whose second red is courtesy of a three-ball plant, which was not what he originally played for, but it sat dead-straight. He then misses a blue off its spot, somewhat uncharacteristically. Let off for Surety, who then sends a red rattling into the jaws of the yellow pocket

Zhang 0-19 Surety

And Surety is the first man to get his hand on the table. There's a very handy green to keep the break going after the opening red. He reaches 19 before somebody shouts something from the crowd on his backswing and he misses a red to the right middle

We continue...

The matches keep coming on a fast-paced evening. Here's our 12th one of the session; Zak Surety v Zhang Anda. Surety is the man who breaks off.

RESULT - Emery 58-28 Davies

The problem for Davies is he can't get a pot on a red, and eventually an error gives Emery the chance to clip one into the right corner on his way to accumulating a handy break of 12 which pretty much wins the frame. Davies then attempts another long pot that goes wrong, and leaves it for his compatriot to clean up.

Emery 39-28 Davies

Oh, hello! Davies pulls a magnificent pot on a red out of nowhere, and follows it up with some very decent cueing to sink the blue. Three reds left on the table, three minutes left on the clock

Emery 39-22 Davies

Just the eight point lead then, which Emery turns into an eight point deficit by the time the half way stage of the frame is reached. The colours a not in good positions for him though, the blue off its spot and the pink by the yellow, so he can only make a break of 25

Emery 14-22 Davies

There's a black that very much takes the sides on its way in, drawing a gasp from the commentators. After taking the next red, he then misses a gimme of a blue by a mile.

Emery 14-1 Davies

An early red from Davies amounts to nothing more than a one-point visit. The reds a significantly well spread, but Emery runs into trouble by failing to get a cannon on one of them. He then misses a red to the left corner. Big, big opening for his opponent now

On we go...

Time for an all-Welsh affair, Alfie Davis v Dylan Emery. It's the former who gets things underway

RESULT - Jones 68-31 Pinches

Relief, for Jones, who plays a good safety and leaves Pinches snookered. The hit and hope leaves the final red in a pottable position. Match taken, but somewhat closer than the scoreline suggests. Certainly an entertaining one

Jones 64-31 Pinches

Well, maybe it's not all over! A lovely opener from Pinches, followed by a sensational deft clip on a black. He amasses a break of 27 before reaching the last red. That's on the left cushion and he can't get in behind it. Pot missed

Jones 64-4 Pinches

We've only just reached the half-way stage, and Jones has already amassed a break of 61. A superb run-through into the pack keeps him going, until he plays a safety when he runs out of reds to pot. There's surely no comeback from here

Jones *37-4 Pinches

And with the way the reds are set, points can be accumulated quickly. Four reds, with blacks, for Jones, before he takes the brown off his fifth

Jones 0-4 Pinches

Bizarre moment, as Pinches pots a red and a green, before getting a second red into the right corner. It's a straightforward shot, but he's looking straight down the camera lens, and as Neal Foulds on commentary says - he's not cueing straight!! He misses, and Jones has a big opening now

Next up...

Match ten is Barry Pinches v Duane Jones, who are both former professionals, but are currently playing under amateur status. Jones wins the lag and decides to break

RESULT - White 52-2 Peng

It could have been very different, but for that error by Peng, which basically gifted White the chance to take the upperhand in the frame. 2015 champion White is through to round three

White *39-2 Peng

It's just not Peng's evening. A couple of attempts at pots go awry, and eventually he stands one up over the yellow pocket for White to clip home. 90 seconds left and the Welshman is making his lead an unassailable one.

White 26-2 Peng

White doesn't do too much damage with that break, despite having ball in hand, but he soon comes back to the table after an error from Peng. The clock is ticking as he runs around the table to make his first shot, but from there on, it's pretty serene stuff, until running out of position and playing safe off the yellow

White *8-2 Peng

Three minutes elapse before the first pot of this one as Peng clips a shot-to-nothing into the right corner. A good cue ball sees him put the white behind the brown, and it's a hit and hope reponse from White which sends balls flying all over the shop. Big, big chance for Peng, until he finishes with a touching ball on the green, doesn't declare his colour and is called for a foul. A gift for White!

Into the second half of the evening we go

Match nine is Peng Yisong v Michael White. The former gets proceedings underway

RESULT - Williams 8-62 Boiko

Fantastic, by Boiko. A terrific display of potting, but also a great snooker brain displayed with his safety play. He eventually finishes when firing home a brilliant pot, only to go in-off. Shame, but job done. He's into round three

Williams 4-44* Boiko

And that, may well, be that for Williams. A quite sublime safety from Boiko, screwing in behind the green, leaves Robbie in all kinds of trouble. It's a hit and hope job, but he hits the pink. Ball in hand, Boiko gets to work again. The lead is rising

Williams 4-25 Boiko

That safety requires a two cushion escape from Williams, and as he clatters into the pack, he leaves a tough enough pot to the left middle. Boiko sinks that, and with five minutes gone, he's sat very nicely, a 21 point lead after playing safe off the yellow

Williams 4-18 Boiko

Now Boiko is loking good though. A superb red up into the yellow pocket, delicately played, before gathering position. There aren't too many loose balls, just the one, in fact, and some clever screwing off the blue gets him an angle on it. 17 scored before he plays safe off the green.

Williams 4-1 Boiko

A rattling long red from Williams to open the frame, but only a break of three. Boiko responds with a red of his own, but again it's just the one put on the scoreboard

Time for some Entertainment!

It's Robbie Williams v Iulian Boiko up next, and the former elects to break after winning the lag

Feel the power

‘Might have to bring a crash helmet’ - Leclercq hits white ball off the table at Shoot Out

A quite marvellous hit and hope from Leclerq earlier on. They were running for cover in the crowd!

RESULT - Gilbert 36-40 Robertson

He's done it! Robertson pots a black to go ahead with 25 seconds remaining. From there, he takes his time over the final two or there shots. A cracking comeback from Jimmy Robertson!

Gilbert 36-31* Robertson

Only a break of 23 for Robertson though before he misses a red with 90 seconds remaining. Gilbert's safety response isn't great, but the Robertson long red off it is phenomenal. It's on...again!

Gilbert 36-16* Robertson

Three minutes left on the clock when the door is opened for Robertson, as a poor safety from Gilbert leaves a long red to the right corner. He follows with the pink. There is enough time to close that 35 point gap down, and the reds are nicely spread. It's on.

Gilbert 36-1 Robertson

24, the end break, before he runs out of position and so lays up a horrendous safety behind the green. Robertson can't escape. Ball in hand, Gilbert is back at the table and pots a red and black, before playing safe off the pack. Five minutes left

Gilbert *21-1 Robertson

Robertson pots the opening red, but then had so play safe. A few shots later, and there's an opening for Gilbert, who's striding confidently around the table. The reds aren't particularly well spread though, and the pink and blue being close to reach other is making things a little tough. Still work to do. Three minutes gone.

Next up...

It's time for match seven; David Gilbert v Jimmy Robertson. The latter wins the lag by quite a distance and puts his opponent in to break

RESULT - Tian 21-50 Davis

There was time, but he needed to pot the balls too. He runs nastily out of position by cannoning into a red near the pink spot. A long effort to the yellow pocket is his only option. He misses, and Davis bounces back to the table to complete the job

Tian *14-39 Davis

That pesky left corner pocket is proving problematic. Davis misses a red with the rest to it. Two and a bit minutes left. Time for a comeback?

Tian 8-28* Davis

Strong favourite, that is, until he over-cuts a red to that left corner pocket. Tian then misses an attempted pot and shakes his head in disbelief, and then, off his next shot, he brushes a ball with his body. Foul called, ball in hand for Davis. Surely he can't lose from here

Tian 8-16* Davis

Tian is first with his hand on the table after a very cagey opening, but he can only score eight. That leaves the door open for Davis to absolutely drill a long red into the left corner. The green follows, and he's not got ideal position. There's lots of reds in the open. Strong favourite from here with five minutes left.

On we go...

Here's match six, Tian Pengfei v Mark Davis. The latter wins the lag and invites his opponent to break

All fun and games

‘In the spirit of Poomjaeng’ - Noppon plays shot with wrong end of cue at Shoot Out

Saengkham was already out by this point, but that didn't stop him sharing a laugh with the audience

RESULT - Dott 72-5 Page

It won't be a century for Dott, who eventually fouls by potting the green, but a wonderful 72 takes him through to the third round

Dott *54-1 Page

This could be a one-visit job for Dott. 54 and counting his break, with five reds left on the table, but only four and a half minutes on the clock

Dott *23-1 Page

Page gets first sight at a red, but then misses the green off it. Problems abound, as he's sent to the cue ball smashing into the pack. A big opening for Dott, who coolly starts accumulating a decent break as he picks off some of the loose reds

Time for a former World Champion

We're a quarter of a way through the evening, and it's time to welcome our first former World Champion of the session. Graeme Dott, never known for his speed, is up against the highly-rated Jackson Page, who will break off

RESULT - Cao 51-0 Leclerq

A break of 46 from Cao, before he plays a stunning safety, getting the cue ball behind the green. Leclerq smacks the cue ball so hard with his safety, that is flies off the table! Cao goes through as the Belgian offers his hand!

Cao *24-0 Leclerq

More trouble for last year's runner-up as he basically runs out of ideas and attempts a fierce pot that scatters the balls even more than they already were. The miss is a gateway for Cao to build a significant lead as the clock runs down. Three minutes left.

Cao 1-0 Leclerq

A miss from Leclerq finally paves the way for Cao to pot a long red, and then sets a horrible snooker behind the pink and brown on the top cushion. A hit and hope from the Belgian to escape, which he achieves.

Cao 0-0 Leclerq

It's another frame where a safety battle kicks things off. Cao has had one attempt at a pot, but missed by a distance. Three minutes in. Still waiting for the deadlock to be broken

Next up...

Cao Yupeng faces last year's runner-up Julien Leclerq. It's the former who wins the lag, and he puts his opponent in to break

RESULT - Saengkham 7-68 Long

After Saengkham misses a long red to the left corner, Long comes back to the table and pots another red, accompanied by the green. He misses his next shot, and that gives Noppon a chance to put some points on the board, but it's nothing more than a consolation break. The debutant is through to round three!

Saengkham 0-53 Long

There's surely no way back for Noppon now. Long just keeps picking off the reds, most of them taken with a blue as the black is tied up and the pink is on the brown spot. Five reds left on the table when the break finally comes to an end. Three and a half minutes on the clock.

Saengkham 0-35* Long

Long is a confident looking chap. He decides to take a long red to the left corner, which if he missed would have been disastrous, but sinks it cleanly. A blue to the left middle follows, and he's suddenly building a very handy break

Saengkham 0-10 Long

Glorious from Long, who, after an early break of one, comes back to the table and smashes a stunning long red into the right corner, screwing back for the yellow. That was magnificent, but he under-hits his second red and has to come in and out of baulk off the blue. Again, he doesn't get the cue ball where he wants it, so plays a very tidy safety

On we go...

Match three of the evening is Long Zehuang v Noppon Saengkham. Two naturally quick players, particularly the latter, who's never shy of an attacking move. Saengkham wins the lag and will break

RESULT - Jin 0-76 Hamilton

And in the end, Hamilton prevails fairly easily. An end break of 58 takes the former German Masters champion through to the third round

Jin 0-36* Hamilton

No damage for Hamilton though, as Jin nearly runs out of his time on his shot, and is practically running around the table as he plays his attempted pot to the right corner, missing by some distance. The Sheriff is back at the table, and now he'll surely put the match to bed

Jin 0-18 Hamilton

Sarcastic cheers from the crowd as a terrific bit of cueing, with the white tight on the top cushion, results in Hamilton finally potting the first ball of this frame, three and a half minutes in, sinking a red to the middle. He holds for a colour, and given the way the balls have spread after that safety battle, you would make him a very strong favourite to win it in one visit...until he sends a red into the knuckle of the left middle

Jin 0-0 Hamilton

Jin wins the lag. Hamilton breaks, and it's a quiet start. Two minutes in, and we still haven't had an attempt at a pot

Next up...

Match two is Jiang Jin v Anthony Hamilton. The Sheriff of Pottingham admitted in an interview before we got underway that he'd never heard of his opponent, or seen him play!

RESULT - Wakelin 44-46 O'Connor

Unbelievable! Wakelin was on the comeback trail! He puts together a mightily fast break of 32. He's got 10 seconds left. He needs to the extension on the final red, and just send it into the jaws. Wow! What a thriller to start the evening!

Wakelin 12-46 O'Connor

Another excellent Wakelin pot, using the pink to make the middle pocket bigger, before adding the black. He then attempts to squeeze a red through a small gap, but it's not there. Break over, and it could be match over too. O'Connor is back at the table and putting the frame to bed

Wakelin 4-43 O'Connor

Signs that it might not be Wakelin's night. He pots a beautiful red into the right corner, which required some excellent cueing, only to miss the following pink. He's running out of time

Wakelin 3-43 O'Connor

O'Connor comes unstuck as he goes into the pack, only for the cue ball to head towards the side cushion. He plays a safety, off of which Wakelin flukes a red across the table. It's only a break of three, though, as he over-cuts his second red. Five minutes left

Wakelin 0-43* O'Connor

A handy long red to settle the nerves for O'Connor, followed by an excellent brown that brings the cue ball back around the pack. He is then able to hold for the black, and suddenly this is a very encouraging position. Just over three minutes in, and he's picked off all the loose reds to accumulate a break of 43

Here we go!

O'Connor and Wakelin join us for the first match of the evening. The defending champ wins the lag, and he puts his opponent in to break off. We're underway!

Glovely stuff

Kyren Wilson was wearing an oven glove for his match earlier on! Why, I hear you ask? We'll let the man himself explain.

The action so far

It's already been a fantastic couple of days in Swansea, including Shaun Murphy's stunning 147 yesterday. But which maximum was better; his, or Ronnie O'Sullivan's record-breaking one back in 1997?

Defending champ kicking things off

Chris Wakelin won the event in 2022, and he's first on the table tonight, facing Joe O'Connor for a place on finals day

Good evening!

  • Ryan Day v Ashley Carty

Result! – WILSON 71-14 DORGHAM

That mistake was fatal for Dorgham.
Wilson mops up the stray reds and then breaks into the pack before some banter with the crowd sees him end on a break of 64.
Dorgham decides to play on to make the most of the spotlight, but can only add a few points to the board and Wilson knows it’s done as he finishes the match with an oven glove on his left hand!

WILSON 1-1 DORGHAM

Mostafa nails a long red to get off a positive start but there’s not on beyond that.
Wilson follows suit with a long pot that has the crowd purring and although he can’t do much with a colour, an error from Dorgham leaves the cue ball near to the black and a number of loose reds…

NEXT UP - the final match of the afternoon session

Mostafa Dorgham v Kyren Wilson.

Result! – ALLEN 69-1 BROWN

Allen doesn’t have to wait long as a lovely snooker opens up the opportunity for him to despatch a red down the left to the corner pocket via the rest.
More safety leaves Brown frustrated, but he does manage to get on the board with a nice cut on a long red to the left corner bag.
It’s all academic though as Allen gets in again and bullets a yellow down the right rail to bask in the delight of the crowd prior to the hand shake.

ALLEN 64-0 BROWN

Allen leans across the table to strike a tricky red up to the green pocket and find position on a red to bottom left via a blue to the middle.
It’s smart snooks that charts a path down to the black and a loosened pack that could see him complete victory at this visit.
Indeed, he’s very close with just a red and colour to leave Brown needing snookers, but he hits the near jaw to middle right and Oliver will at least get some time at the table.

It's time for the penultimate tussle of the afternoon

Mark Allen faces Oliver Brown.

Result! – LILLEY defeats BORWICK

A run of 30 concludes with a neat pot on the pink and it’s Lilley who marches into the next round.

LILLEY 40-25 BORWICK

It’s cagey stuff as Borwick clips in a red to earn the slightest of advantages.
Lilley then cuts in a red to level and gets a fortunate kiss to sit neatly on the pink to the bottom right.
There’s less than a minute to go and the old stager is taking charge when it matters.

LILLEY 24-24 BORWICK

Borwick looks to assert some authority but a big miss on a routine red to the left corner opens the door for Lilley.
There are some stray reds nicely placed around the black that allow Lilley to finally trouble the board and he soon edges level before a near miss on a red up to the green pocket leaves things nicely poised with four minutes to go.

LILLEY 0-16 BORWICK

The young gun is in first with a run of 16 but when he gets another bite at a long red to bottom right he can’t convince the near jaw to let it pass.
Lilley has his chances but can’t make anything stick, missing a red to middle left by quite a distance.

Result! – DAVIES 57-42 HEATHCOTE

It’s disappointment for Louis as the Welshman tickles in a pink as the clock runs out to seal victory with aplomb.
It's David Lilley v Jack Borwich next as experience takes on youth.

DAVIES 36-42 HEATHCOTE

Heathcote was patient there but he jumps to attention when he finally gets an opportunity.
A rocket of a red down the right rail shows he very much feels he can turn the tide here and with just over a minute left he cuts a sublime black down to the bottom right to move in front. He seems to be in the driving seat, but a shock miss on a red leaves the door ajar for his opponent to pinch it…

DAVIES 36-0 HEATHCOTE

Another long red does see Liam put a run together and a sequence of red-black-red leads to a break of 30 which ends when he can’t quite get the angle right on a tough cut down to the bottom left.

DAVIES 6-0 HEATHCOTE

Wow, that’s a belter. Davies unleashes a sublime long red from right to left but he catches the brown off a pot on the blue and it’s end of break.

Result! – PULLEN 120-1 O’NEILL

Jamie does come back to the table and knocks in a red, but that’ll be it for his tournament.
Pullen lives up to his name by ‘pull ‘in clear’ with another break of 52 as he clears up to the pink to win it in style.
Next up, Louis Heathcote meets Liam Davies.

PULLEN 68-0 O’NEILL

Liam Pullen gets a nice nick off the brown to lie tight behind the yellow on its spot. It forces the error out of Jamie O’Neill and allows Liam to pull clear.
A superb strike with the rest sees him slot a red to the bottom right corner and land neatly behind the black to despatch it to the same pocket.
A clinical black takes him beyond the half century and within sight of clinching the contest at this visit.
He knocks in the black with the rest and is very lucky not to go in-off by the yellow pocket.
It’s not all over mathematically, but it is really with just over three minutes to go…

Result! – LAM 58-5 HICKS

Hicks gets a huge fluke as the blue bullets into a red and sends it into the corner right bag.
It doesn’t pave the way for a heavy score though and Lam gets back in to try and pull well clear.
He gets a handy nick off the blue to pot a tricky red near to the bottom deck and then a super recovery red up to middle left keeps him ticking over with just over three minutes to go.
A lapse on a red does finally come but at this point Hicks needs a snooker and he opts to offer his hand instead.

LAM 19-0 HICKS

Déjà vu as Lam produces a similar red to that same bottom right pocket before despatching the green to the yellow pocket to land nicely on a red on the bottom rail.
A black up to middle left follows that red but it isn’t really the most inviting of tables and his run ends there.

LAM 1-0 HICKS

Lam rockets a red down the right rail dead centre into the pocket. It’s a superb shot but there’s no position there and he has to play a safety back to baulk.

Result! – STEVENS 0-78 UN-NOOH

Well, that was emphatic. Un-Nooh cruises through with just under five minutes still to play. That was pretty ruthless and he may well be a threat to avoid in the next round!

STEVENS 0-40 UN-NOOH

Thepchaiya gets us underway with a wonderful plant on a red up to the middle right. He’s quickly in a lovely flow, picking off a succession of stray reds and straight away the Stevens – the local favourite – has it all to do.

Result! – SARKIS 7-65 URSENBACHER

Victor adds three to his tally but the smiles and theatrical jumping between points makes it feel far more rewarding.
Sarkis wants one more hurrah and nails the yellow in the final 10 seconds. He soaks up the roar, but it’s Ursenbacher who wins by some distance in the end.
Can Matthew Stevens and Thepchaiya Un-nooh live up to the energy of that one? Perhaps not, but we are about to find out...

SARKIS 1-65 URSENBACHER

He’s still all grins but there will be no Samba dancing for Sarkis as Alex chips in another run of 11 to leave his opponent with too much to do with less than two minutes to go.

SARKIS 1-54 URSENBACHER

A clever safety leaves Sarkis in a pickle and Alex gets in again. This time he gorges upon a flurry of red-black pots before playing off the brown up to baulk.
We are at the halfway mark and Ursenbacher is a heavy favourite now.

SARKIS 1-29 URSENBACHER

Sarkis is first in but it’s just the one red and an error gifts Ursenbacher a decent opening.
He’s quick about the table is the Swiss star and in the blink of an eye he’s developed a solid lead.

Eight matches to go this afternoon

And here comes Alexander Ursenbacher and Victor Sarkis.

Result! – ZHOU 78-0 KLECKERS

Kleckers is unlucky with a long attempt on a red that rattles the jaws of the corner left pocket.
Zhou takes advantage with a slightly easier one to the opposite corner and chalks up another seven points before Lukas goes in-off.
It pretty much means the match is over and Zhou enjoys a victory visit to the table. He’ll take the win but may well rue blowing the half chance of a maximum before that miss on the black.

ZHOU 41-0 KLECKERS

An excellent long red helps Zhou stop perfectly on the black with enough loose reds available him to run up a big lead early on.
He keeps preying upon the black off the reds but then inexplicably fails with a routine pot to the bottom left corner.
Kleckers probably thought he wouldn’t get a chance at one point there, but he does – and then blows it with a similar miss on a red to the opposite pocket.

Result! – JOYCE 12-51 HALLWORTH

Hallworth makes a succession of steady red-black combos look routine but it ends abruptly on 17.
Joyce has a slither of hope, but it goes begging immediately as a red somehow fails to drop in the green pocket.
Steve clips it down and his lead is just too much with less than a minute to go and Mark throws in the towel!
Coming up: Lukas Kleckers v Zhou Yuelong

JOYCE 12-26 HALLWORTH

Mark makes some inroads into the lead but not enough from his point of view. Just over three minutes to go and he’s left a red to bottom left for Steve. It could be a fatal lapse too…

JOYCE 0-26 HALLWORTH

Hallworth rockets a quite splendid long red to the right corner via the help of the near jaw and a green up to its own pocket paves the path for him to develop a decent run.
However, just when it starts to look like he might run away with this, he takes his eye off a pot considering his next move and gives his opponent a half chance.

Result! – CARTER 16-6 BURDEN

It’s all over! A low scoring match ends with The Captain navigating his way through murky skies to book his spot in the next round.
Next on the agenda: Mark Joyce v Steven Hallworth.

CARTER 16-6 BURDEN

Alfie threads the eye of the needle with a long red to bottom right but then needs another well-controlled pot up too the green after landing dead in the centre of a cluster of reds. He nicks in another but then it turns a bit scrappy with both players fluffing their lines from range.
Less than a minute to go with Burden looking beaten at this juncture…

CARTER 16-1 BURDEN

Carter makes him pay, wooing the crowd with a sharp pot on the yellow up the rail before halting what feels like a hefty score in the context of this match by retreating to baulk.

CARTER 1-1 BURDEN

‘Boring!’ is the shout from the crowd as we head towards the halfway mark with just a solitary red potted by Carter.
That may well change now as Carter leaves a red hovering over the green pocket - but then Burden blows a tough cut on the yellow to its own pocket.

Next up…

Ali Carter faces Alfie Burden.

SI 72-9 BROWN

Too good.
Si holds his hand up in apology as the cue ball avoids the middle left and comes off the cushion to land nicely on the green. It’s not that much of a strike of fortune and if it was, he deserves it as a run of 39 puts him on the verge of victory with less than two minutes to go.
Brown then misses a make-able red and that will surely be that as Si chalks up another 16 to finish the job well before the clock runs down.

SI 17-9 BROWN

Jordan gets in again with a fine cut on a red to middle left, but again, he can’t make too much impact as he blows a pink to the same pocket soon after.

SI 17-4 BROWN

Brown gets on the board with a superb red up the green pocket via the rest and then has the crowd jumping up and down with a yellow to its home pocket.
There’s not much on beyond that though and he plays a safety off the black to the bottom rail.

SI 17-0 BROWN

The inner thoughts of Jordan probably went a bit like: ‘D’oh!’ after an approach to nick a red from baulk ended with the cue ball going in off in the left corner.
With ball in hand, Si builds a decent lead but blows a make-able red down to the right corner.

Ready for some more?

Well, you had better be because Si Jiahui and Jordan Brown are about to lock horns!

Result! – MOODY 90-0 BURNS

Stan the man, er… well maybe not yet, but that was a mature performance alright. He savours the cheers of the crowd with a big grin on his face and at the shake of hands turns back to them to show them his muscles!

MOODY 75-0 BURNS

This is superb stuff from the teenager!
Ian Burns can only watch on with a lost look on his face as Moody moves to within frame ball courtesy of a magnificent long red up to the green pocket.
Stan doesn’t get over the line himself though as Burns fouls to compound his misery. It’s just a lap of honour now for Moody with the match in the bag.

MOODY 33-0 BURNS

Some sloppy work from Burns allows Stan to develop that lead further and although the can only add nine to his tally, he moves the black to the side cushion to leave his opponent with it all to do at the halfway mark.

MOODY 33-0 BURNS

It’s a bit premature as one solitary figure in the crowd shouts ‘we want a maximum!’ when Moody opens with a couple of red-black combos to build a tidy lead.
The audience then roar in unison as he slips a simple yellow up to its home pocket and some exquisite positional play keeps his sequence going until a lack of fortune on an attempt to split the pack leads to the end of break.

Time for another teen starlet to step up to the plate

Stan Moody takes on Ian Burns next.

Result! – SLESSOR 42-16 SYKES

Oli ends at the table with a simple pot on a pink to the right corner, but it’s Slessor’s day as he marches into the next round courtesy of a solid showing.

SLESSOR 42-5 SYKES

Sykes produces a couple of sensational pots but a miss on the pink along the bottom rail means it’s pretty much curtains with less than a minute to go.

SLESSOR 42-0 SYKES

‘Walking in a Slessor wonderland!’
That’s a new one from the crowd as Elliott clocks up an excellent run, slotting a long red down to the bottom left to keep it going and leaving Sykes with a mountain to climb in the time remaining.

SLESSOR 5-0 SYKES

Ouch. Sykes sees the cue ball go in-off at lightning speed and it’s ball in hand for Slessor to finally take charge with just over three minutes to go.

SLESSOR 1-0 SYKES

It’s a cagey start to this one with Slessor missing a couple of attempts from baulk.
It’s third time lucky for Elliot though as he thunders a long red into the middle of the left corner pocket.
Sadly, there’s not much beyond that and he ends up retreating to baulk.

Result! – YOUNG 41-28 LIU

Liu can’t conjure up a special shot to wrestle the momentum his way and it's Young who develops that lead further with an excellent red up to the green pocket and a brown to the same bag.
There’s less than a minute to go with four reds awkwardly positioned. You sense it will be curtains for Liu here… and although he knocks in a couple of balls at the death he ultimately runs out of time.
Next up, it's Elliot Slessor v Oliver Sykes.

YOUNG 28-20 LIU

A red to bottom right and a pink to the other corner sets Dean off on his way to a slight lead as he fails to make the most of a good situation.
It’s a strange old table with the majority of the reds up near baulk.

YOUNG 5-20 LIU

What a shot that is! Liu cannons into two reds and one flies into the yellow pocket. It’s a fluke, but it actually works against him and he ends up fouling.
It’s ball in hand and a big opportunity for Young now.

YOUNG 0-19 LIU

Liu sizzles a long red down the right rail to the corner bag to earn some cheers of approval from the crowd and get off to a flyer.
A blue to middle is followed by a simple red to the bottom right and he continues to make use of the blue before a mid-range red on the stretch comes back off the jaws of the bottom right pocket.

Next up...

It’s the 13-year-old Shaun Liu against Scotland’s Dean Young.

Result! - MURPHY 44-46 DALE

Shaun misses a tough cut on the final red to the bottom left corner via the rest and there is just 10 seconds left… and that’s it, it’s all over.
A 147 yesterday, but The Magician will be performing a disappearing act today.

MURPHY 44-46 DALE

A shot for nothing on a far from routine red suddenly turns the tables and it’s Dale eating into Shaun’s lead.
A red along the bottom rail is followed by a black that puts him in charge with one red left.
There's one minute to go!

MURPHY 44-9 DALE

Shaun works his way in and is soon potting red-pink, red-black combos to surge away. The balls are well spread for him to finish it from here, but he runs out of position and has to play safe with just over three minutes to go.

MURPHY 1-9 DALE

Dom breaks the impasse as Shaun leaves a red hovering over the right corner pocket. He produces another fine cut on the brown up to the green pocket via the rest but the table isn’t too inviting and he has to play safe with a run of nine.

MURPHY 1-0 DALE

Shaun is full of confidence and opens with an explosive long pot before opting for safety with a flick off the green into baulk.

Here we go!

First up, it's Dominic Dale v Shaun Murphy; The Spaceman against The Magician who has already told Eurosport 1 that there will not be another 147 from him today!

'Can't believe what’s just happened' - Murphy makes history with 147 in Shoot Out

Shaun Murphy created Snooker Shoot Out history when he produced a magical 147, the first maximum to be recorded in the competition.
The Magician treated the fans to a mesmerising display at the Swansea Arena in a first-round victory over Hungarian teenager Bulcsu Revesz, clearing the table with well over two minutes in the match still remaining.
Revesz made the cardinal sin of hitting the blue from his break, and it proved to be his only shot of the match.
Murphy started confidently and began to put away red-black combinations in rapid fashion, indicating the feat could be on. As he edged closer, and perhaps to help ease his nerves, with the break at 81, Murphy turned to the crowd and said: "Is anyone getting nervous?"
He took a moment to compose himself before getting back among the balls and sweeping them aside with relative ease.
"And he's done it," Eurosport commentator Tim Peters said.
"A phenomenal achievement, a fantastic break in these circumstances," said Fergal O'Brien.
