A day after edging out 1997 world champion Ken Doherty 6-5, the defending UK champion enjoyed a much more comfortable afternoon against world number 32 Zhou compiling breaks of 66, 60, 68, 89 and 69 to move through in only one hour and 24 minutes.
The five-times world champion is the first player through to the last 16 where he will face Marco Fu or Jack Lisowski.
World number 11 Kyren Wilson also eased through with a 6-2 victory over 2017 Northern Ireland Open finalist Yan Bingtao.
Breaks of 89, 74, 115, 68 and 74 were more than enough for Wilson to progress against an opponent whose highest break was only 58.
Wilson's reward is a last-16 meeting with Gary Wilson or Barry Hawkins.
Tom Ford ended Alan McManus' hopes after his shock 6-5 victory over John Higgins on Saturday with a 6-3 win while world number 110 Lu Ning upset the 13th seed Luca Brecel courtesy of a 6-4 victory in their last-32 clash.
World champion Mark Williams survived a wobble during the middle of his match with Noppon Saengkham as he progressed 6-3 to secure a meeting with Stephen Maguire in the last 16.
His best efforts of 54, 72 and 112 came after Noppon Saengkham had opened with a break of 119. Williams will become world number one if he wins this event for a third time.
2004 UK winner Maguire enjoyed a 6-3 win over two-time world championship finalist Ali Carter in a match of high quality.
Carter restored parity at 2-2 with runs of 53 and 135 after Maguire had compiled 62 on his way to a 2-0 lead.
Knocks of 77, 73 and 77 gave the Scotsman a 5-2 advantage before he won the ninth frame to claim the victory after Carter's battling 58 in the eighth frame.
Joe Perry completed a 6-2 win over Joe O'Connor boosted by brilliant breaks of 100, 127 and 109.
