Kyren Wilson ensured it was a very memorable day at the Crucible as he made history by becoming only the ninth player in World Championship history to record a maximum 147 break at the most famous venue in the sport. Wilson drained a stunning long pot on a red to get the break going, and he surged on from there in unerring fashion to put his name in the history books.

Watch Wilson clinch stunning 147 at Crucible as fans celebrate

Kyren Wilson compiled only the 13th maximum 147 break in Crucible history on Wednesday during his first-round match with Ryan Day at the World Championship.
Wilson, who assumed a 3-2 lead with the historic display of potting, had the crowd on their feet with a lengthy standing ovation after he completed the impressive achievement in very memorable fashion. He later went on to assume a commanding 6-3 lead by the end of the session.
Such was the excellence shown by the 31-year-old that he did not even err in completing the feat after rattling in the opening red - a very tough, long effort from range that got the break going in style.
"Kyren Wilson joins the Crucible maximum club - what a cool, assured break that was," exclaimed Dave Hendon, on commentary for Eurosport at the time.
"The crowd were on the edge of their seats, biting their nails, but the coolest man in the Crucible was Kyren Wilson. The 13th maximum that we have seen at the home of snooker.
"Just the ninth player to make one, what a wonderful, wonderful break. Brilliant! What a moment - what a moment for Kyren Wilson!
"It was not straightforward, but he just looked so cool. He was determined to make it. The fans can say 'we were here to see it' - and what a special moment."
Former world champion Joe Johnson added: "It looked on right from the very beginning. The reds were spread beautifully - which he did himself, by the way - after he knocked in that fantastic long red to open up the break.
"From there on in, he just aggressively opened the reds, and it always looked on. All the way through, he was just in full control until the pressure points of the break - and then he was Mr Cool."

147 in full: Watch Wilson's incredible maximum break as Crucible history is made

The first Crucible maximum was scored by Canada's Cliff Thorburn back in 1983 against Terry Griffiths in their last-16 encounter. This historic moment was all the more significant given that it was only the second televised 147 ever scored in any tournament, following Steve Davis' groundbreaking effort at the 1982 Lada Classic.
The most recent 147 prior to Wilson adding his name to the history books was rattled through by Neil Robertson in last year's event. The Australian achieved the feat against Jack Lisowski in their last-16 clash.
