Frenchman Merlin Surget held his nerve to claim a second career snowboard cross win while Michela Moioli triumphed with a slice of luck in the women's event at Sierra Nevada, Granada. The result brings Surget up to sixth in the overall standings, far behind leader Eliot Grondin. Moioli is up to second, within striking distance of women's leader Chloe Trespeuch.
Merlin Surget banked his second ever World Cup victory with men's snowboard cross gold in Sierra Nevada.
The French athlete claimed his first win a month ago in Cortina d'Ampezzo and repeated the feat in Spain, leaving Canadian Eliot Grondin and Austria's Jakob Dusek to pick up silver and bronze.
For Crystal Globe leader Eliot Grondin, a second consecutive silver in Sierra Nevada marked the first time this season he has not stood on the top step of the podium in back-to-back races.
In the women's event, Michela Moioli took gold two years after her last World Cup victory in Cortina.
The Italian cruised home for her 18th individual career win when leaders Charlotte Bankes of Great Britain and France's Chloe Trespeuch crashed out metres from the line.
Australian Josie Baff took silver while a disappointed Bankes crawled over the finish line for third.
Moioli has cut the gap in the overall standings on Trespeuch to 86 points as the Frenchwoman had to settle for fourth.
