Baron given green light

European champion Esther Baron has been given the green light by doctors to compete in the World Championships in March.

The European 200m backstroke champion swam 2:17.18 at a recent meeting, over six seconds slower than she swam in winning the gold in Budapest last August.

However, scans have revealed the injury not to be as serious as first thought.

Coach Phillipe Lucas told L'Équipe: "You can't judge her on that (performance) because she didn't swim it.
