Russia won the gold medal in the team routine at the European synchronized swimming championships on Saturday with a mark of 99.300. The Russians upset Spain, second with 97.900, and Italy, who were a surprise third with 96.400. France, whose swimmer Virg
Olga Brusnikina, Anastasia Davydova, Anastasia Ermakova, Maria Gromova, Elvira Khasyanova, Maria Kisileva, Olga Novokschenova and Anna Shorina, who composed the Russian team, performed a nearly flawless routine in the Madrid swimming pool.
They reached a very high total of 99.300, ahead of local favourite Spain, leaded by Gemma Mengual, with 96.400.
"We are very proud of this silver medal, we've worked hard to achieve it", the Spanish team declared.
Italy were a surprise third, overcoming France and its solo gold medal winner Virginie Dedieu.
