- TSONGA 6-3 6-6 (0-2) - TIE BREAK - A break for Ward as Tsonga double faults. That has cost the Frenchman already today.
- TSONGA 6-3 6-6 - Ward draws Tsonga into a rare baseline rally on the Frenchman's serve but to no avail as a smart forehand gives Tsonga the point in any case. He holds to ensure a tie-break.
- TSONGA 6-3 5-6 - Ward shows he has no intention of being bullied on his own serve and ensures the pressure is back on Tsonga. He holds to 15 when a sliced return from Tsonga floats long. That was impressive from Ward.
- TSONGA 6-3 5-5 - Can Ward enjoy any success on the Tsonga serve? An ace to open suggests not and Tsonga continues his ruthless run when holding to love in just over a minute. Another ace wraps it up.
- TSONGA 6-3 4-5 - Accomplished stuff from Ward as he holds off the charge of the Frenchman to ensure Tsonga must serve to stay in the set. A sliding forehand from Tsonga just sneaks over the line as the British number two holds.

- TSONGA 6-3 3-4 - BREAK - Tsonga produces a sublime forehand passing shot and responds with a motivational fist-pump. Another fine angled shot to the back of the court puts Ward on the back foot. But what a response from Ward as he claws it back. Both men have chances as we have a series of deuces, but Tsonga breaks back with a punishing forehand and a punched volley.
- TSONGA 6-3 2-4 - A second brutal hold for Tsonga to love. Ward's chances have completely dried up on the Frenchman's serve as he brings up ace number nine.
- TSONGA 6-3 1-4 - Tsonga fails to get much traction on Ward's serve and a review works in the British number two's favour, much to Tsonga's annoyance. Ward holds when a Tsonga return floats long. Just two more holds and he is there...
- TSONGA 6-3 1-3 - So what response can the Frenchman muster? A pretty impressive one. His first three serves do not come back and Ward then puts his return from a second serve out. That was an easy hold.
- TSONGA 6-3 0-3 - Ward is really hitting his stride as he sends Tsonga to all corners of the court before producing a lovely angled volley. Another ace puts him within a point of a third game in succession and a big forehand down the line proves impossible to return.
