NADAL BREAKS! A wretched game from Tsonga as he breaks for the first time and then is immediately broken back. Not what the French player was looking for as he dumps a poor shot into the net to allow Nadal to break. We are back on serve.

TSONGA BREAKS! An awful opening service game from Nadal. Seemed to lose concentration at the vital moment and he has been broken for the first time in this match. Nadal none too happy with that.

SET TO NADAL! Tsonga misses a crucial volley at the net trailing 5-3 to hand Nadal three set points. The world number one only needs one as he throws down a fine first serve before racing to the net to thump away a winner for a 7-3 success in the breaker. Finally, Nadal can see some light at the end of this Tsonga serving tunnel.

Nadal comes up with the goods on serve. A very impressive hold from the world number one when he needed it. We head on into the breaker in this first set. Nadal trying to work out how he can trouble this booming Tsonga serve.

Nadal brings up three break points. Finally, he begins to turn the screw with a couple of fine winners. Tsonga comes storming back with some more big serves to save the three break points. Tsonga throws in his first double fault of the match to fall back to deuce. A thumping forehand winner and another ace saves the day for Tsonga. Great hold.
