GAME, SET AND MATCH! – MEDVEDEV 4-6 4-6 ZVEREV. Sascha wins the ATP finals for the second time in his career. He defeats the reigning champion in straight sets and is a deserving winner. There were some clear nerves with a long forehand and a VERY slow second serve but a rasping forehand put him in charge at 30-15 and he didn’t look back from there, taking the title with a superb wide ace.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 4-5 ZVEREV. Close but no cigar for Sascha. He forces deuce and a couple of twitchy moments for Daniil, but he can’t conjure up a match point. It’s now or never for the world No.2. He must break or Zverev will be the champion.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 3-5 ZVEREV. One game from the title! Zverev fizzes one forehand long, but it matters little at 40-0 up. A big serve ends Medvedev’s hopes of a break back on this occasion. Time is running out for the reigning champion.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 3-4 ZVEREV. Sascha would love the insurance of double break but undoes some fine early work at 30-30 when he lifts a forehand just long with him firmly in the rally. Medvedev seizes upon the gift and slaps down a big serve to stay in touch.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 2-4 ZVEREV. Medvedev tries to plant some seeds of recovery as a bullet forehand and sublime pass off a clever drop shot take him to deuce. Zverev feels the heat but responds with clutch serving and some no frills volleying to maintain his advantage.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 2-3 ZVEREV. Rapid. Medvedev barely breaks sweat as he marauds to a love hold in double-quick time.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 1-3 ZVEREV. That is sumptuous. Zverev charges into the net to pick up a drop shot and angle a sweet forehand pick-up way beyond the Russian’s reach to conclude another dominant hold.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 1-2 ZVEREV. It’s a long way back but Medvedev won’t give up without a fight. He finds better rhythm on his own serve and drags himself on to the board.
MEDVEDEV 4-6 0-2 ZVEREV. Very tidy indeed. Zverev slaps an ace down the T that even Medvedev can’t claw back with his Inspector Gadget-like reach. It sees the German consolidate to 30.

BREAK! – MEDVEDEV 4-6 0-1 ZVEREV. Oof. Medvedev needed a strong start to Set 2 – but he doesn’t get it. A loose forehand sees him cough up an immediate break and Zverev’s eyes are lighting up right now.

SET! – MEDVEDEV 4-6 ZVEREV. That is an exceptional set of tennis from the German. He serves out to 15 in 34 minutes after winning 89 per cent of his first serve points.
MEDVEDEV 4-5 ZVEREV. Serve-out question posed. Medvedev repeatedly breaches the Zverev defence with a series of forehand bullets and will now have one last shot at trying to save the set.
MEDVEDEV 3-5 ZVEREV. Sascha ends with a flourish as he unloads a pair of sizzling forehands to hold to 30 after a double fault and a drive volley long had threatened to unravel what looked like being another easy hold.
MEDVEDEV 3-4 ZVEREV. Better signs for the US Open champion. He races through a hold to love but needs to start solving the puzzle of the Zverev first serve. The German is 11/11 for points won on it thus far.
MEDVEDEV 2-4 ZVEREV. The Olympic champion outlasts the Russian in a tasty 23-shot rally and eases through another hold to 15. Medvedev has not been able to do enough on the return and is struggling to win points in rallies over five shots, which is somewhat surprising.
MEDVEDEV 2-3 ZVEREV. Clutch work from Daniil. He’s staring down the barrel at 30-40 but sweeps away the BP with a crunching forehand before edging through to stay in touch from deuce.
