RUNE REACTS TO THE WALKOVER WIN AFTER TSITSIPAS RETIRES
"For sure (not the way he wanted to win). It is very unfortunate. You could see in the first service game, he was not serving as full as he can. For sure, something was up and when he called the physio I knew.
It's a long season, I wish him all the best."
Asked about his own form, he added: "The first match against Novak was a very good level match (from me), I think.
"I was very happy with the things I did. It was a weird feeling. I played well in that match and lost. I have never felt like that in my life... It shows how good Novak is."

TALYOR FRITZ V HUBERT HURKACZ TO COME
There will be an exhibition match between the alternates in 15 minutes time.
It at least means they get to have a run out and the fans don't feel too short-changed.

THE MOMENT STEF DECIDED HE COULD NOT CONTINUE
Will we see Tsitsipas for his final match of the Green Group?
It's probably unlikely given he now has two defeats from two.
As it stands, Rune tops the pool with Djokovic v Sinner to come this evening.

RUNE 2-1 TSITSIPAS
Tsitsipas unloads that trademark backhand but looks a shadow of his usual self. There are murmurs he may be feeling under the weather and he doesn’t move particularly well throughout this game.
Rune cannons down a wide ace and follows with another big serve to ease to a game to 15.
He fired 18 aces against Djokovic the other night and looks to have good rhythm again today.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas has a chat with the doctor…

RUNE 1-1 TSITSIPAS
Stef has to play catch up again from 0-30 and then endures a touch of misfortune as a crosscourt forehand from close-in clips the tape and bounces out.
The Greek resets from deuce and a pair of big serves ease him on to the board.

RUNE 1-0 TSITSIPAS
Rune kicks off with a couple of hefty serves but is soon under pressure when Tsitsipas chases down a drop volley and rockets a crosscourt forehand pass to make 30-30.
The Greek then sizzles a forehand up the line to earn the first break point of the match but can’t convert as Holger attacks the backhand and slaps away a smash to reach the sanctuary of deuce.
Tsitsipas retorts with a stunning crosscourt return winner but Rune comes up clutch again to swat it away.
The Dane then conjures up a couple of strong first serves and comes through a tricky test to open.

RUNE EAGER TO REMAIN PERFECT IN H2H WITH GREEK
“I have good memories with him on the court. The first time at Roland Garros, the second time in Stockholm. I think he's very hungry now. He's been saying [that] a lot, and you know that he's ready to go out there and compete. So I'm expecting a tough battle from him. He's a great player and he's been tough for many years.”

STEF WARY OF RUNE'S THREAT AND NEVER-SAY-DIE SPIRIT
“Holger has been pretty good against me in some of the encounters and matches that we've had against each other. I believe that he's a tough competitor and someone that fights really hard on the court. Whether he's up or down, he will not give up."

FLYING THE DANISH FLAG
Rune is the first Dane to qualify for this prestigious event in Nitto ATP Finals history after being an alternate in 2022. This is the third straight year that there has been a Scandinavian in the field after the exploits of Norway's Casper Ruud (previous two years).

TSITSIPAS HOPING TO MAINTAIN IMPRESSIVE STAT IN SECOND MATCH OUTINGS
The 2019 champion has never lost his first two encounters when competing at this tournament. The Greek has a 3-0 record in second group matches (only played one match in 2021, losing to Andrey Rublev before withdrawing with an elbow issue).

HEAD-TO-HEAD
This will be their third meeting with Rune winning both of the previous encounters.
The Dane won in four sets at the 2022 edition of Roland Garros and also came out on top in the Nordic Open title match in Stockholm that very same year.
