World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev and Britain's Dan Evans win to go through to last 32 at Indian Wells

World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev was in action on Saturday at Indian Wells in the United States, recording a 6-3 6-2 win over Czech star Tomas Machac. There was also a win for Britain's Dan Evans as he beat Federico Coria 6-2 6-0 in his match and he will face Rafael Nadal in the third round after the Spaniard battled past Sebastian Korda.
Medvedev eases past Machac in first match as World No.1
Daniil Medvedev reached the last 32 at Indian Wells with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Czech challenger Tomas Machac.
The world No. 1 dominated the service game, sending down three aces and his opponent unable to conjure up one himself, while Machac could only win half of his second service points compared to the Russian’s 82%.
The 2021 US Open winner was a beaten finalist against Rafa Nadal in the Australian Open this January, but appears ready to challenge for a first title at Indian Wells.
Nadal was second on Stadium 1 after Medvedev and he was made to work to sustain his perfect start to the season by Sebastian Korda, eventually winning 6-2 1-6 7-6(3).
The 21-time Grand Slam winner entered the second-round match with world number 38 Korda having won all 16 of his matches in 2022.
That run has seen the 35-year-old collect titles at Melbourne Summer Set, the Australian Open and the Mexican Open, but his hopes of winning a fourth Indian Wells looked in serious jeopardy after Korda fought back from a set down to fashion a 5-2 lead in the decider.
However, Korda passed on two opportunities to serve it out as Nadal forced a deciding-set tie-breaker, and the Spaniard would prevail to set up an encounter with Dan Evans in round three.

Britain’s Evans managed three aces, as did his Argentine opponent Federico Coria, but Evans was able to win with an easy 6-2 6-0 scoreline, as he seized on six of his eight break points.
Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz Garfia needed two sets for his 6-3 6-3 win over American rival Mackenzie Donald, as he took five of nine breakpoints on his way to the win.
17th-ranked Reilly Opelka downed Italian Lorenzo Musetti in his round of 64 match.
With an impressive nine aces compared to his beaten rival's two, Opelka was dominant from the off with a 6-1 6-4 result.
Roberto Bautista Agut was pushed all the way by American JJ Wolf. While Agut took the first set, the second went to a tie-break in the second. However the Spaniard rallied and won 6-3 6-7(3-7) 7-6(7-5).
