MATCH! Sure enough Federer does only need the one point as Murray dumps his backhand return into the bottom of the net to gift the world number two a second straight sets win in this tournament
40-30
A cross court forehand from Murray drifts just wide (challenged unsuccessfully by Murray) and it brings up a first match point for Federer ...
5-2
Murray is picking things up a little again now as he places a forehand winner right into the corner of the court to hold for a second time and at least force Federer to serve out the match. It's too little too late from the Scot though as Federer has looked imperious today
5-1
Murray finally finds a forehand winner, which he drills straight down the line, but it is only a minor highlight as Federer goes on to hold without the loss of further points when Murray dumps his forehand return of serve into the bottom of the net. Murray will next have to serve to stay in the match
4-1
Murray is forced to save yet another break point with a forehand winner before finally going on to hold for the first time in this set with a solid first serve, finally, that Federer cannot get back into play
4-0
Murray just can't find the court today as he races up to another drop shot from Federer before sending his attempted forehand winner wide across court. And that seals another hold for Federer as he consolidates the break, leaving Murray staring at the possiblity of a bagel second set
3-0

BREAK! Federer gets himself yet another break point as Murray sends a cross court forehand volley just marginally wide into the tramlines. And that after he'd done so well with a low backhand pick up off a sliced backhand approach shot from Federer. And a forehand winner from Federer on the very next point sees him secure the double break in this second set
2-0
Federer is absolutely cruising now as batters down another ace, his fourth of the day, to race through the service hold that consolidates his set and a break lead. If Federer goes on to win this match, which is looking highly likely, and if Ferrer were to beat Soderilng in tonight's match that would guarantee the world number two a place in the semi-finals on the basis of head-to-head records
1-0

BREAK! Murray has Federer just where he wants him on the other side of the court before slapping his forehand winner wide down the line. And another forehand error hands Federer another two break points. The first goes begging for the world number two with an unreturnable first serve and an ace saves the second. Murray squanders a game point and eventually MFederer brekas with an off-forehand winner across court after the ball had clipped the top of the net

Murray has on four occassions come back from a set down to beat Federer but the way the world number two is playing today, it will be a big ask for him to recover this match

SET! A whipped forehand passing shot across court from Murray goes for a winner and earns the Scot a 0-30 lead for the first time. Murray misses a forehand though, much to his disgust, before the world number two produces an inside out forehand winner right onto the line. And a foray into the net followed by another forehand winner brings up a set point. Amd one set point is all that's needed as Murray's cross court forehan goes wide.
5-4
Anything you can do ... Murray also posts a love service hold marked with his third ace of the day to successfully stay in the set. But Federer has looked basically unchallenged behind his serve so far today and will serve for it after the change of ends
5-3
Another love service game goes the way of Federer, including his third ace, as the world number two comes up with a forehand winner down the line to seal the game. And Murray will have to serve to stay in this first set next
4-3
Murary is beginning to settle into this match now, although he is of course already a break down, and he posts another service hold to 15 to at least vaguely keep the pressure on Federer. A solid first serve down the centre of the court does enough to confound the Swiss maestro and he frames his return, which lands about two metres short of the net
4-2
Federer is clearly coming into the net as much as he can, and gets a little lucky when he plays a relatively poor approach shot but does enough with his first forehand volley that Murray can only hit into the net whilst going for a cross court forehand passing shot. And the world number two goes on to hold when Murray again hits into the net off the forehand wing
3-2
Much better from Murray this time around as he holds to 15; opening with his first ace of the afternoon before sealing the game with a good-enogh lob that Federer cannot return off the backhand wing
3-1
Murray was clearly not happy with the white shirt he started the match in as he has already changed it back to the black one he played in on Sunday afternoon. But it doesn't seem to have done him much good - not so far at least as Federer races through a second comfortable hold to consolidate the early break
2-1

BREAK! Outrageous defence from Murray as he first races up to the drop shot, comes up with a reactionary forehand volley (albeit framing the ball), tracks back for a stretched forehand in the mid-court which he lobs up high. But Federer produces a great smash and another error from Murray hands his opponent three break points. Only one is needed though as he drills a forehand passing shot straight down the middle of the court just above Murray's racquet
1-1
A much more straightforward opening service hold for Federer as he eases through for the loss of just the one point, with a heavy first serve out wide followed by a high forehand drive volley to finish and get his side of the scoreboard ticking over
0-1
Federer drills a forehand well long down the line to hand Murray another game point, after bouncing back from 40-15 down to push the Scot to deuce. And this time Murray does take full advantage of the point, hitting to length and waiting until Federer makes the mistake - the world number two firing a forehand just long across court
