So, at the end of day one it is Federer at the top of Group B ahead of Kei Nishikori on games won-lost difference. Which is also the deciding factor between Andy Murray and Milos Raonic, who are third and fourth in the group respectively.

Federer 6-1 7-6(0) Raonic. Game, set and match. A disastruous tie-break from Raonic ends with a netted bachand, under pressure from the fast-approaching Federer. Federer has his first win of the tournament and keeps alive his hopes of ending the year as world number one.

Federer 6-1 6-6 (4-0) Raonic. Tie-break. Federer races through the first three points of the breaker in emphatic fashion, whipping a forehand winner across court on the third to consolidate his early mini-break lead. That quickly stretches to 4-0 when Raonic slaps down an untimely double fault.
Federer 6-1 6-6 Raonic. Federer finds himself into a potential spot of bother once more on serve as he stares at 0-30 down on the scoreboard. He pegs his way back to 15-30 before Raonic goes wide and long with a forehand back behind Federer. Raonic screams in frustration and it seems to have worked as he quickly earns himself a set point with a forehand passing shot winner from up at the net. Federer saves it with a big first serve that Raonic cannot return back into play and from there he goes on to hold to push this second set to a tie-break.
Federer 6-1 5-6 Raonic. Federer picks Raonic off with a beautifully timed bachkand passing shot winner down the line. But it's not enough to put pressure on Raonic, who holds without too much more trouble and forces Federer to serve to stay in this second set for a second time after the change of ends.
Federer 6-1 5-5 Raonic. A little too casual from Federer on what should be an easy forehand volley winnner but instead ends up in the bottom of the net. Federer quickly makes amends with a second serve ace before going on to hold without facing a trouble point for the first time in three service game.
Federer 6-1 4-5 Raonic. Raonic leaves himself potentially just one game away from pushing this match into a third set as he holds despite a bit of pressure from Federer, who pulls off an amazing forehand approach shot winner in the process. Raonic was caving under that kind of pressure in the first set but has really found his feet in the second and Federer will have to serve to stay in it after the change of ends.
Federer 6-1 4-4 Raonic. Again the Canadian applies the pressure on the Federer serve, this time going ahead rather than forcing his way back from 40-love down. But again he cannot make anything of the chance, not even a break point this time, as Federer bounces back with a couple of big serves to hold.
Federer 6-1 3-4 Raonic. Federer drops another bachand drop shot short of the net after he had done the hard work to put pressure on the Raonic serve. But in the end the Canadian holds to 30 to sneak out in front once more.
Federer 6-1 3-3 Raonic. Federer plays what could possibly be his worst shot of the year as he pulls a bachand drop shot about a metre short of his side of the net. He plays it at 40-love up, which should still be comfortable, but Raonic steps up on the next point and thumps a bachkand winner down the line to apply more pressure at 40-30 before Federer is pegged back to deuce when he slaps down a double fault. Federer is forced to save another break point but does so with a stunning second serve right on to the outside of the line before going on to hold with another couple of very good serves.
Federer 6-1 2-3 Raonic. A clever change-up from Raonic as he posts his most comfortable service hold of the match so far. The Canadian sneaks ahead once again and is looking more and more dangerous the longer this match goes on.
Federer 6-1 2-2 Raonic. Federer look set to cruise through another service hold before Raonic hits back with consecutive points - an inside out forehand winner right into the corner and then a troubling backhand for Federer - to take the Swiss player to deuce fore the first time in the match. Raonic also denies Federer on another game point before finding a first break point with a brutal cross court forehand return winner that lands right on the line. Federer saves it with a trip into the net and a smash winner but is quickly forced to save another, which he does when Raonic completely mis-judges a forehand and frames the ball sky-high and into the crowd across court. Federer eventually goes on to hold with a big first serve - this set just one minute shorter in the first four games than the entire first set!
Federer 6-1 1-2 Raonic. Raonic makes a tentative approach to the net behind a forehand. But the ball drops short and Federer just picks off the cross court passing forehand winner before a double fault from Raonic allows his opponent to level at 30-all. Federer goes on to earn himself yet another break point when Raonic misses a first serve and then is put under pressure on the second and fails to land his follow-up backhand in play. Raonic saves this one, though, and eventually goes on to hold with a big ace down the centre of the court.
Federer 6-1 1-1 Raonic. Federer is in such a great rhythm, a routine that clearly suits the world number two perfectly. Federer has lost just the four points on his serve so far in this match, and two of them were in the first game.
Federer 6-1 0-1 Raonic. Much better from Raonic, looking to put that opening set behind him, as he holds for just the second time in the match to get the second set underway.

Federer 6-1 Raonic. Set. Federer is hitting so consistently deep that Raonic is having trouble dealing with it and puts another forehand long down the centre of the court to allow Fed two set points. The world number two only needs the one though as he races up to the net to bury a forehand volley winner. Almost the perfect set from Federer.

Federer 5-1 Raonic. Break. Raonic again goes for the inside out forehand across court but Federer exploits the gap it leads and draws a running cross court forehand wide from the Canadian to earn himself another break point. Raonic saves it with an ace but then squanders a game point with a forehand wide down the line. Federer gets another chance to break and this time he does get it when Raonic loops his forehand approach shot wide - his sixth error of the night. Federer will serve for the set.
Federer 4-1 Raonic. Another Raonic error on the forehand as Federer once again pushes the Canadian to be perfect to match what is coming from the other end. Raonic goes wide again with an inside out forehand across court.
