GAME, SET AND MATCH! - FEDERER 6-2 6-1 6-4 GOFFIN. The Swiss Maestro eases through in straight sets, lashing down a big serve to finish on his first of two match points. The four-time Aussie Open winner is into a 12th quarter final of the competition and will meet Tomas Berdych next. Goffin fought hard but wasn't on the same level as the 17-time Grand Slam champion who eases through in double-quick time.

FEDERER 6-2 6-1 5-4 GOFFIN. Decent hold for David as he wins a lovely rally to conclude for the loss of one point. Fed-Ex will now surely serve it out.
-
FEDERER 6-2 6-1 5-3 GOFFIN. Roger breaks out of his trance-like state to reel off a hold to 15. Goffin's respite appears to be over but at least the final set scoreline will be slightly more respectable, particularly if he can hold and make Fed-Ex serve it out...
-
FEDERER 6-2 6-1 4-3 GOFFIN. It gets better for La Goff. A love hold moves him to within striking distance... Surely not?! Federer is in a bit of a lull all of a sudden. He's still firmly in the box seat but may have to play on just a little longer than anyone was expecting...

BREAK! - FEDERER 6-2 6-1 4-2 GOFFIN. A clenching of the fist is how Goffin celebrates a glorious backhand that streaks crosscourt for the winner that seals a break back. Yes, you read it right. Goffin has broken Fed-ex. It's too little, too late but it's a rare moment of joy in an evening of huge disappointment for a player who has given everything against a far superior opponent.
-
FEDERER 6-2 6-1 4-1 GOFFIN. A lovely winner from Goffin briefly lifts the crowd, but it only serves to re-focus Federer. The Swiss must have remembered he wants to wrap this up quickly as he snares another break on his second break point to ensure that he just needs to dot the 'I s' and cross the 'Ts'.
-
FEDERER 6-2 6-1 3-1 GOFFIN. David bows his head in sheer dejection. Normal service is resumed on the Fed-Ex serve. It's a love hold and he's dropped just eight points on his own serve in the match. Tremendous rhythm from the third seed.
-
FEDERER 6-2 6-1 2-1 GOFFIN. It's a real battle for Goffin just to win a game here. Once more he's taken to deuce, but he refuses to let Federer surge clear just yet and pulls off a much-needed wide ace to get on the board.

Maybe the Aussie crowd could offer Goffin some tips like some of them did to Djokovic earlier...

FEDERER 6-2 6-1 2-0 GOFFIN. It's hard to work out what is more demoralising for La Goff; being completely outclassed in games or getting within sight of an opportunity and seeing it snatched away. The Belgian gets to deuce for the first time on the Fed-Ex serve courtesy of the Swiss Maestro's first double fault, but he can't make any more inroads and sees his opponent consolidate despite offering up some resistance. It's no secret that Federer is Goffin's idol, but while he often dreamt of facing him in a Grand slam when he was younger, he probably would have thought twice about this type of meeting if he knew it would turn into such a nightmare.

BREAK! - FEDERER 6-2 6-1 1-0 GOFFIN. Poor old David. The Belgian is 15th in the world - he's no mug. But he's being put to the sword in relentless fashion here. He can't even start again at the beginning of the third as Fed-Ex breaks to 30 with another crushing winner off the forehand.

SET! - FEDERER 6-2 6-1 GOFFIN. Ruthless efficiency mixed with a bit of the majestic. Federer is playing supreme stuff out there and La Goff has been as much of a spectator as the crowd for most of it. Even when he does dig in to produce his own moments of magic, Federer just ups his game a little. It's a hold to 15 with the minimum of fuss and the Swiss is 2-0 up inside 50 minutes.

BREAK! - FEDERER 6-2 5-1 GOFFIN. It's a game simply overflowing with sensational winners - and the longest in duration by some distance. A ridiculously effortless return via a crosscourt backhand gets Roger to deuce before a gorgeous lob puts Goffin back in control. The pair exchange the initiative with some lovely rallies before La Goff fizzes just long following a magnificent 28-shot rally. Fed-Ex then takes it to even greater heights by securing the double break with a backhand lob under pressure. Impeccable tennis.

Federer: an artist at work.

Follow it here with me, on Eurosport TV or via the Eurosport Player. Lots of options - but be quick! It may be over before you know it! Roger's on fire.

FEDERER 6-2 4-1 GOFFIN. Roger consolidates with another speedy love hold. This second set is going the same way as the first for the Belgian.

BREAK! - FEDERER 6-2 3-1 GOFFIN. Fed-Ex starts with a graceful backhand winner down the line before sealing the break to 30 with a smoking forehand into the right corner he is facing. Goffin smashes the ball away in anger and frustration. It's not as if he's playing badly. He's made some nice shots - but Fed-Ex is seeing it earlier and punishing him at will.
