Konta 3-2 Zhang. Konta does all the hard work at the back of the court only to push her backhand passing shot attempt wide down the line to allow Zhang to level at 30-all. A booming forehand right on to the baseline helps the Chinese player sneak ahead before she wraps up the hold with a big serve that Konta can only return into the net. Konta still with a break.
Konta 3-1 Zhang. A double fault quickly followed by an ace from Konta to open the game. But consistent hitting from the Brit helps bring up two game points after a smash winner and a netted forehand from Zhang. The Chinese player makes a trip into the net on game point but can't do nearly enough with her forehand volley and Konta guides her lob down just inside the baseline to hold and consolidate the break.

Konta 2-1 Zhang. Break. Konta is so good at hitting the corner and rattles a cross court forehand right into the spot to bring up her first break point of the match. She goes a little wide with a forehand across court to squander it after heavy pressure from Zhang but gets a second chance with the Chinese player's inside out forehand goes wide across court. And this time the Brit does take the lead when Zhang fails to find the court with a backhand. Fantastic start from Konta.
Konta 1-1 Zhang. A nice solid first serve from Konta to open up her account before Zhang nets a backhand, right into the top of the tape, to allow the Brit to move 30-love ahead. An inside out bachkand wide across court allows Zhang off the mark but Konta goes on to hold without dropping another point, an ace sealing the game for the Brit.

Konta 0-1 Zhang. The world number 133 has made an aggressive start as she moves up the court and draws the errors from Konta to bring up three game points. The first goes begging with a forehand volley long of the baseline but she holds at the second attempt when Konta fails to find the court with her forehand return.

Right. The players are ready to go and it will be Zhang to the clash underway by serving first. A place in the semi-finals against Angelique Kerber awaits the winner of this match...

Both of these players have a golden opportunity to reach the last four of the year's opening Grand Slam. They have played twice before with Konta securing a hard-fought three sets victory in qualifying for the 2012 US Open before Zhang gained a measure of revenge with a straight sets victory at home in the Guangzhou quarter-finals a year later.
Zhang run through to the last eight is also quite the story. The Chinese world number 133 has never before won a Grand Slam match and has her parents in Melbourne as she was going to make this her last tournament before announcing her retirement. But she opened the tournament with a straight sets win over world number two Simona Halep before also claimed victories against Alize Cornet and Vavara Lepchenko. Just like Konta, Zhang dropped her first set in the fourth round before eventually seeing off world number 15 Madison Keys.
Australian-born Konta, the world number 47, is playing in her first Grand Slam quarter-final having taken out some truly impressive names on her run through the draw. The 25-year-old opened with a straight sets victory over admittedly slightly underpar Venus Williams, before also taking out Zheng Saisai and Denisa Allertova. The Brit dropped her first set against Ekaterina Makarova in the fourth round but held her nerve to bounce back from a set down and beat the world number 21 8-6 in the third.
