But, congratulations to Jo Konta - we saw a different class in Serena today, and it was Konta who forced her to perform by making demands of her that she's not yet faced in this tournament. The money must be on Serena to win, now.

This is the first time in grand slam history for two players over the age of 35 (The Williams Sisters) to make it to this stage of the tournament.

KONTA 2-6 3-6 WILLIAMS: Konta has looked so composed throughout the game - far more so than Williams at times, so it's shame to have seen her so thoroughly outclassed by her opponent, but it's not a surprise. Serena WIlliams holds to take the second set and the match.

KONTA 2-6 3-5 WILLIAMS: Bit early to call for Venus, but little sis Serena is now serving for a place in the semi final,

KONTA 2-6 3-4 WILLIAMS: Back to back aces win Serena the game after Konta has her at break point. Serena holds and I can't see Konta coming back from that, now. My feeling is Serena will want to round this up pretty quickly.

KONTA 2-6 3-3 WILLIAMS: If it looked like the wheels were coming off, that certainly doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Konta is certainly giving her the run around, but it's too easy to make that break with a drop shot - she's way too fast.

KONTA 2-6 2-1 WILLIAMS: Williams is beyond angry as Konta succeeds where she has just failed. She's let herself down there and Konta breaks.

KONTA 2-6 1-1 WILLIAMS: That looked more like the game many will have been expecting on the basis of Konta's form so far, this tournament. She defends three break points to hold her serve.

KONTA 2-6 WILLIAMS: Konta did well to stay in the game for so long, clearly not quite ready to give up the first set. but Serena is ready to deprive her of her first in the tournament. She roars as she takes the set. A great set by the champ.

KONTA 2-5 WILLIAMS: Serena is doing what she does best and she is making light work of her young opponent. Completely outclassing her.

KONTA 1-4 WILLIAMS:21 minutes in and Konta has a deficit to turn round already.

KONTA 1-3 WILLIAMS: Serena said in her press conference that she'd been studying Konta's game - it seems to be working out well for her as she takes the fourth set.

KONTA 1-2 WILLIAMS: Serena is shouting for no real reason already, I say no real reason, but Konta has had the first break point here. Regardless, it's defended and on we go.

KONTA 1-1 WILLIAMS: Nice start by Konta who looks calm and at ease up against this grand slam behemoth, Serena Williams.

Konta and Williams are on court now, warming up. Konta has yet to drop a set in this tournament and a lot is being made of her chances today, but Serena WIlliams is still chasing that record breaking grand slam - she's currently level with Stefi Graf's record of 23 grand slam victories.
