Djokovic 3-6 1-6 - That was just a fantastic performance from Ferrer. Almost flawless in its execution and he’s definitely through to the next round.

Djokovic 3-6 1-6 - MATCH! Serving for the set…it’s not a great start as he goes down 0-30, the second after Ferrer hits wildly. He’s off the hooks as Djokovic hits first long, then into the net. A fantastic backhand out wide and Djokovic goes for it, unsurprisingly missing it. Match point…and it’s converted as the Serb smashes a giveaway down the line. Djokovic doesn’t seem too disheartened, and you wouldn’t really after the season he’s had.

Djokovic 3-6 1-5 - BREAK!…Booming first serve saves the day, but ERROR into net – it’s getting boring writing that now. Another break point…second serve…the double break as Novak again with an unforced backhand error.
-
Djokovic 3-6 1-4 - Eight winners, 26 unforced errors from Djokovic tells the story. A bit of class from Novak though as he pushes Ferrer wide and flicks over a little drop volley. Ferrer shanks the return off his frame and it’s 40-15. Novak only halfway up the net with a terrible backhand. Deuce after another backhand goes wrong. It functions this time and it proves too much for Ferrer. Just horribly error strewn, double fault this time and another chance to break…
-
Djokovic 3-6 1-4 - Ferrer Federer-like as he flicks a forehand winner into the corner. Novak hits long off a serve into the body and it’s 40-0. An ace down the middle and this is all so strangely easy for the Spaniard.
-
Djokovic 3-6 1-3 - Djokovic has produced a few miracles this year. He needs another one here. A big one-two winner from Djokovic, but no reaction. The Serb elects to leave the ball and it goes in. A big first serve down the middle, followed by the same again and at least Djokovic is on the board in this second set.
-
Djokovic 3-6 0-3 - The return of serve is again long from Novak. Ferrer thinks he’s hit an ace, but it’s just wide. The rally off the second serve goes to Novak. He’s just struggling to hit winners as yet another goes wide. Ace! Game Ferrer; this is so impressive.
-
Djokovic 3-6 0-2 - BREAK! It’s like playing a brick wall against Ferrer, everything comes back and eventually the mistake from Djokovic comes. Another mistake as Novak hits into the net on the forehand. A wild forehand from Ferrer lets Djokovic off the hook, but the Serb wants to beat himself as yet another unforced error off the backhand this time. Two break points…one saved with a good first serve, second saved, but break point again after you guessed it – unforced error. Forehand winner!
-
Djokovic 3-6 0-1 - Ferrer justlove scurrying across the baseline and running everything down. Djokovic is playing into his hands as he keeps hitting unforced errors. Djokovic gets on the scoreboard when he unleashes a forehand winner into the corner, and reduces the arrears even further when Ferrer hits long. Incredible point from Ferrer, he chases down the dropshot, hits one himself, flicks the return down court past Djokovic and smashes away the Serb’s last desperate lunge.

Djokovic 3-6 - Unreturned serve, then an unforced error and it’s 15-15 on the Djokovic serve. Another backhand into the net and Ferrer’s two points from the set…great second serve from the Serb and a wild slap of a forehand from Ferrer and it’s 40-30. Deuce though as Ferrer is just so dogged. A lame backhand from Djokovic and it is set point; this would be a surprise…he’s just not missing that man, he takes the set.
-
Djokovic 3-5 - Ferrer can play this game all day; Djokovic isn’t really going for his shots and Ferrer’s out lasting him. Novak does go for his shot this time, but it’s into the net and it’s 40-0 to Ferrer. Djokovic replies with three massive groundstrokes that all are so deep and it’s too much for the Spaniard. Ferrer survives the second onslaught though and takes the game.

Djokovic 3-4 - BREAK! Ferrer’s gaining in confidence, this time playing Novak at his own power game and thumping a winner up the line. A gift from Ferrer as his return off the second serve goes into the net. Djokovic error for 15-30. Another miss from the Serb, by inches and it’s two break points…he converts after belting a forehand down atNovak’s toes after the Serbian charged the net.
-
Djokovic 3-3 - Ferrer with a beautiful little dropshot volley after constructing the point well. Another lovely dropshot, this time off a short slice from Djokovic. In effect another dropshot! Though it was actually an incredibly lucky net cord that dribbles over. Game to love.
-
Djokovic 3-2 - Ferrer with consecutive returns into the net. And another backhand into the net. Keeping unforced errors low is usually Ferrer’s forte, not so today as yet another gives Novak the game. He needs to cut down on those sharpish.
-
Djokovic 2-2 - Ferrer gets his forehand all wrong. Djokovic takes ball on early and slams the ball past the Spaniard. So nearly the winner down the line. Djokovic challenges, but it was just wide. Big serve once again from Ferrer for 30-30. Djokovic uses the slice and it gets the beeter of Ferrer and it’s a break point…good return, but Djokovic messes it up with an unforced error. Ferrer’s aggressive and comes into the net, forcing Novak to slice into the net. Swinging ace out wide...game Ferrer
-
Djokovic 2-1 - Another double fault from Novak for 15-15. A perfect backhand volley into the corner from the Serb, an unforced error from Ferrer, but Novak does the same for 40-30. Another big first serve though and all Ferrer can do is get his racket on it.
-
Djokovic 1-1 - Ferrer starts on serve well with an accurate first serve. Djokovic rips a backhand down the line into the corner for a winner. Ferrer’s playing six feet behind the baseline, but it works as Djokovic goes for the wayward winner. An ace down the middle and it’s evened up.
-
Djokovic 1-0 – …Another big serve, followedby a long backhand return and it’s game to Djokovic.
-
Djokovic 0-0 – Novak starts it all off with an ace down the middle. Ferrer can’t keep in the following return as it goes long. A double fault gives the Spaniard his first point of the match. The firstrally of the match and Djokovic comes out on top with a powerful drive down the line. A fantastic rally is ended when Ferrer easily gets to the drop shot then puts away the following lob. Deuce. An ace, but Ferrer batters the winner off the next second serve…

The Ferrer serve will be vital today. It’s probably the weakest aspect of his game, and Novak is right now debatably the best returner in the world. Ferrer will need to keep his first serve percentage high to have any chance tonight.
