Nadal 6-2 3-6 6-6 (7-3) - A drilled forehand winner up the line from Fish and he's applying the pressure here. A weak forehand from Fish and Nadal has three match points. Surely this is it…Fish hits an overhead backhand smash into the net and that is that after nearly three hours on court.

Nadal 6-2 3-6 6-6 (4-2) - Nadal takes the opening point and gets the mini-break when Fish nets a forehand as he's pushed onto the back foot. A booming ace out wide gets the world number eight onto the scoreboard. A terrible return of serve from Fish as he tries to go for too much. Another return goes long and Nadal opens up a 4-1 lead. A brilliant serve out wide from Fish keeps him in it at the turnaround.

Nadal 6-2 3-6 6-5 - There's noise in the crowd, which annoys Nadal. It doesn't put him off though as he executes a volley that Fish, try as he might, cannot quite reach. The dropshot's worked well for Fish tonight, but this effort clips the top of the net. A weak return of serve and Nadal can move ahead in the set…another unforced error into the net and Nadal takes it.
-
Nadal 6-2 3-6 5-5 - Fish bravely leaves a Nadal forehand which travels only marginally long. Fish again leaves the shot, but this time he gets it wrong and it drops in! Another match point…Fish serve-volleys a winner and back to deuce. A very un-Nadal like pass as he hits comfortably wide. Advantage Fish and the American doesn't need a second invitation as he again forces the error.
-
Nadal 6-2 3-6 5-4 - The American takes the ball out of the air with a sweet drive volley. He comes into the net straight from the serve in the next point, and Nadal puts the ball right down onto his toes, Fish narrowly failing to hit the half volley over the net. Nadal slaps his forehead after failing to take advantage of a promising position. A hash of a backhand from Fish though and Nadal has match point…
-
Nadal 6-2 3-6 5-4 - Nadal with a stunning backhand that falls perfectly into the corner. The Spaniard nets in the following point, but a swinging first serve down the tee sets up two game points. One of the best returns of the night from Fish reduces the arrears. A double fault takes it to deuce. Fish hits inches long to the relief of Nadal and Uncle Tony. A cool dropshot from the favourite moves him to within a game of the match.
-
Nadal 6-2 3-6 4-4 - Fish wrong foots Nadal and with a forehand winner. Fish stretches his lead and takes the game with an ace out wide that Nadal doesn't even bother to move for.

Nadal 6-2 3-6 3-3 - BREAK! Nadal plays an awkward ball over the shoulder of Fish, who can't get enough on it to put it over the net. Another volley goes awry and Nadal gets a glimpse of the immediate break back. A poor unforced error yet again and it's three break points for the Spaniard...no mistake as he passes Fish, sending him the wrong way.

Nadal 6-2 3-6 2-1 - BREAK! Nadal had to leave the court, presumably for a toilet break? Fish doesn't seem happy. This has been a really strange match; Fish has two break points. Nadal saves one, but not another and Fish breaks straight back.

Nadal 6-2 3-6 2-0 - BREAK! Fish is getting a little wasteful. He nets a simple forehand and is wide on the next point. Nadal curls a passing shot - it literally bends visibly - around Fish for a couple of break points. He tries a similar pass after a marathon rally, but it falls just long. One more chance, and this time the pass is inch perfect down the line.
-
Nadal 6-2 3-6 1-0 - Fish controls the point all the way up to the final volley, which he hits wide. The American clips the top of the net on the return and Nadal reels off the game to love in seconds.

-
Nadal 6-2 3-5 - Fish to serve out for the set. Nadal challenges the call but the line judge was spot on. Fish can't quite dink the volley over and you feel Nadal might just strike here. Fish clips the top of the net and Nadal survives the threat.
-
Nadal 6-2 2-5 - Nadal with a lazy error. Fish picks him off in the next point as he hits a winner off a short Nadal ball. Fish hits narrowly long - millimetres at most. Two set points for the American here...he wildly hits the first well wide. One more chance...a stunning reply from Nadal who dropshots the dropshot and takes it to deuce. Fish replies with an angled drop volley and he has another set point...
