FEDERER 6-3 6-0 – MATCH! Backhand winner again from Federer. A proper shank off the forehand from the Swiss and it’s 15-15. The one-two out wide from the serve and it’s the down the line winner. Ace out wide and two match points…he rushes the net and Nadal slices wide. That was almost strange to watch such a dominant performance over Nadal.

FEDERER 6-3 5-0 – BREAK! For once Federer shanks it and it goes miles wide. Federer runs round the return and batters yet another winner to the corner. A vicious backhand slice and Nadal can’t get under it. Another crosscourt winner from Federer, but Nadal replies with his first ace. Still break point…to deuce as Federer hits his first unforced error of the set. The backhand out wide is again too much for Nadal. Federer again crafts the opening and beats the backhand winner down the line.

FEDERER 6-3 4-0 – An ace down the middle to start the game. Another ace out wide for 30-0. Federer with another ridiculous winner down the line for 40-0. The crowd almost cannot believe this. A fierce backhand and Nadal returns long.

FEDERER 6-3 3-0 – BREAK! Even his backhand is now unstoppable, backhand slices followed by a backhand winner crosscourt. That’s more like the old Nadal as Roger rushes the net and Nadal sweeps a winner down the line. Rafa is forced to come to the net this time and Roger passes into the open court. This is pretty astonishing, he forces Rafa out wide and pummels another winner into the open court. Two break points…he gets the double break when Nadal’s backhand is about a foot long.
-
FEDERER 6-3 2-0 – Federer into a comfortable 30-0 lead, make that a 40-0 lead as again Nadal fails to return the serve. A biting Nadal forehand forces Federer into the net, but an ace down the tee and that’s the break completed.

FEDERER 6-3 1-0 – BREAK! ...Unbelievable, Federer is forced out wide and he puts everything into the forehand winner as it screams down the line.
-
FEDERER 6-3 0-0 – Federer’s return is long off the backhand. Nadal hits his second winner of the match wide a forehand down the line. Federer rushes the net and forces the mistake. Both players clip the top of the net, but the ball drops in favour of Federer who smashes it crosscourt for 30-30. Nadal’s swinging serve is unreturned. Another fine rally, but Nadal goes for the winner and it arcs wide. First deuce of the match…break point as Federer has Nadal scrambling...

FEDERER 6-3 – SET! Nadal almost makes the shot on the run as Roger rushes the net, but it hits the tape. Federer tries to serve-volley, but Nadal flicks it onto his toes and the half-volley goes long. A great angled serve puts Roger up. On the stretch from Rafa, but he can’t keep it in and it’s two set points…what a set of tennis from Federer, he slams the return of serve back crosscourt for the winner.
-
FEDERER 5-3 – Federer clips a crosscourt forehand into the top of the net. Defence is fully operational for Roger as he repels the Nadal onslaught and forces him onto the mistake. Another inch perfect forehand winner up the line. Nadal this time batters the ball and does the same to Federer, forcing the error. A good serve into the body is followed up by a blistering winner into the corner. A crosscourt backhand is wide and Nadal holds.
-
FEDERER 5-2 – More scintillating shot making from Federer. An ace out wide gives the Swiss a 40-0 lead. A wild forehand gets Nadal on the board, but once more an unstoppable forehand down the line and that’s the game.

FEDERER 4-2 – BREAK!Nadal can’t get his forehand to dip in time and it’s long. Nadal needs to keep the ball from Federer’s forehand as he hits another vicious winner out wide (95mph that one). Roger works that point to perfection – battering it into the same corner again and again and finishing the point off with a smash. Three break points…what an unbelievable rally, this is incredible. Both players batter it, fighting for supremacy, but eventually Roger becomes dominant and forces the mistake
-
FEDERER 3-2 – An unforced error followed by an easy one-two off the serve give Roger a 30-0 lead. 40-0 as he aces down the middle. Never approach the net against Rafa unless the slice is perfect…it wasn’t perfect. Federer’s backhand breaks down once again, but Nadal lets him off the hook as he crashes one into the net.
-
FEDERER 2-2 – A 10 or so stroke rally is won by Federer. The Swiss leans to his left on the return and Nadal puts it the other way. Nadal gets away with it when a simple pass is put wide from Fed following a poor volley. Another backhand return is awry and this time the same off the forehand. Both players rock solid on serve.
-
FEDERER 2-1 – The serve out wide does to Nadal what he loves doing to Federer. The Swiss follows it up with a brutal inside-out forehand winner. It’s 30-15 when a good lob from Nadal is put into the net. Long on the return from the Spaniard and an unreturnable first serve gives Roger the game. Both players look in form here.
-
FEDERER 1-1 – Roger frames the return off Nadal’s second serve. After an extended rally Federer hits into the net off the same wing. His backhand’s letting him down as this time it’s long. It’s 40-15 as Nadal hits wide…the Spaniard hasn’t made a first serve yet, but no matter as a huge forehand is too much for Fed.
-
FEDERER 1-0 – It’s Federer to serve in this opening game…and he opens with a double fault. He gets a winner in the next rally though as he hits a nice inside-out forehand. Nadal hits the following return long, Federer with another winner into the same corner and that’s the game when Nadal hits a backhand wildly wide.
