GAME, SET AND MATCH....Federer slams a couple of piercing forehands at Granollers that the Spaniard finds too hot to handle. Immaculate stuff from the Swiss player. Highly impressive. Granollers claws his way to 30-30, but another forehand brings up the match point. He misses with a forehand, but Granollers fails to return a backhand at deuce. Federer is long with a backhand on the next match point, but a big overhead and a forehand error from Granollers is enough for Federer to seal the win.

Granollers does his bit by holding serve, but Federer will serve for the match in this game. Tough to see him losing from this position, but where there is life there is hope. Federer has done the business without needing to hit the heights. Typical Federer.

Chance for Granollers with the score at 30-30, but he whips the forehand out of court. That mishit proves costly as the Spaniard bundles a backhand into the net seconds later. Federer one game away from the last eight. Still not much crowd noise.

Granollers not lacking heart. Faced falling two breaks down in the set, but managed to stave off three break points from 0-40 to hold. Punching the air after throwing down his third ace of the match. Federer not yet over the line. Work to be done.

Granollers doing his best to get the ball back in play from his opponent's serve, but he is not getting enough on the ball as Federer recovers from 0-30 to lead 40-30. Granoller knocks a shot wide of the line before discovering the ball is out after a challenge. Federer leads 4-2 with the break.

Granollers remains a break down, even if his spirit is not yet broken. Drops only one point in that game as he remains content to trade blows with Federer from deep. Will need to start going for a few lines if he is going to pressure the great Federer. Federer serves a break up.

Some stunning stuff from Federer with the trademark backhand from deep hitting the mark with its expected regularity. A love game just when he needed it. He is three games from a place in the last eight.

Good hold from Granollers in that game. Needed to hold and comes up with a love game. Difficult to see how he can win this match if he falls two breaks behind. Federer serves 2-1 and a break up.

Federer in a spot of bother for the first time in the match, but he saves two break points with a couple of timely shots. His second serve works well to claw the game back to deuce before an ace hands Federer the game. He leads 2-0.

BREAK TO FEDERER! Granollers trying to mix up his tactics by coming to the net to convert a winning volley, but he is struggling to impress himself upon the great man. Granollers has saved three out of five break points, but the two he has dropped could prove SO costly. He is a break down at the start of the second set.

SET TO FEDERER! Federer not exactly hitting his best level of form, but it is more than enough to claim the opening set. Granollers scrambles desperately in that game, but Federer benefits from some luck to finish matters off as the ball hits the net and drops in with Federer trying to whack a winner down the line.

Granollers with a very deliberate, mechanical service action. Clay is his favourite surface, but he is making a fist of this. In a spot of bother with Federer serving for the opening set. Needs to unearth some flair in this game.

Granollers swings and misses from a piercing Federer first serve at 40-30, and the Swiss player is within one game of the opening set. Not much of an atmosphere inside the arena after the earlier fireworks between Lopez and Djokovic.

Federer trying to find the angles, but Granollers escapes unscathed from that service game as he reduces his arrears to 2-4. Federer setting himself up to run around the forehand, but just missing the magic at the moment. Still well in control.

BREAK TO FEDERER! Federer brings up two break points. Granollers saves one by rushing to the net. Federer is long with a backhand down the middle of the court before a big serve saves the second. Federer swats a crushing forehand across court to bring up the third break point of the game, but an overhead is good enough for Granollers to bring the score back to deuce. Federer sees a sliced backhand drop in before another backhand does the job on a second serve.
