Next up Gasquet will face either Roger Federer or Adrian Mannarino, the Frenchman who was put out of Queen's by James Ward but is a solid top 50 player on his day. I know who I'd rather have...

GASQUET 6-4 7-6(4) - GAME SET AND MATCH! Gasquet closes out the tie-break, earning five match points off second serve but dropping one as he fails to string his serves together when it matters the most. Now 6-3 as Gasquet goes long with a scooping forehand. Niggly from Anderson. And a crisp, aggressive volley at the net and Anderson breathes at 6-4! But his next shot, a lob under pressure, is long and Gasquet has won!
-
GASQUET 6-4 6-6 (4-1) Anderson pulls one back but then misses his volley at the net after Gasquet beckoned him in with, frankly, a risky shot in the air. Bad miss, 4-1.

GASQUET 6-4 6-6 (3-0) - Gasquet starts with a mini-break, the South African just unable to keep it in, and then he goes long for the Frenchman and it's 2-0. And a third as Gasquet knocks the ball behind Anderson, who on the move is too big to readjust.

GASQUET 6-4 6-6 - BREAK BACK! What a game! Two tricky serves leave Anderson short; but a couple of mistakes from Gasquet - including an unforced hit long as Anderson worked hard from deep - and it's 30-30. And break point after a vicious shot as Gasquet rolled it up into his two-hander. Then an idiot yelps in the crowd! Gasquet has to regain his composure but he doesn't! A double-fault! Gasquet was clearly put off by that moron. Tie break it is!

GASQUET 6-4 6-5 BREAK! Talk about timing. Gasquet to serve for the match after floating one wide of Anderson, who responds with a rare howler, low into the net.
-
GASQUET 6-4 5-5 A great return from Gasquet sees him guess the right way and drive one down the middle and beyond Anderson. 15-15. Then an ace, number 13 for Anderson. Oooh but a mighty chase to the net for the drop shot and what a backhand across the net, dropping just shy of the line. Glorious play by Gasquet. And a break point after Gasquet works hard on the rally, Anderson cracking first!
-
GASQUET 6-4 5-5 A selection of flamboyant forehands from Gasquet sees him move 40-0 up. And an ace. Classy. Still no breaks this set, just the one overall.
-
GASQUET 6-4 4-5 Oh but a ferocious ace down the middle from Anderson, cold as ice. And another steely-eyed serve from the man who looks like a bad-guy in a Van Damme movie. Gasquet serving to stay in the set - no breaks in this one yet.
-
GASQUET 6-4 4-4 Anderson challenges now - and a good one, that ball was in. Some poor judgement at the moment, heavy balls tricking the sight perhaps? A failed Gasquet challenge now - Anderson's winner was in... But a super drop at the net from Gasquet, diagonal across and beyond Anderson who thought he'd won that point. 40-30. And he digs out another amazing winner, dipping savagely across court, and deuce. Super from Gasquet. Allez!
-
GASQUET 6-4 4-4 A bit of nonsense sees Gasquet not get the rub of a line call, the challenge shows he was right. At 40-30 too. He holds anyway with a big serve. Phew.
-
GASQUET 6-4 3-4 Big cheer as Gasquet hits a passing forehand on the run after what should have been a winning volley from Anderson. Still only 30-15 to the server though, but level now as Gasquet makes the South African move all over the shop before dragging a backhand beyond his lunge. But Anderson digs deep on his next two serves and holds. Phew.
-
GASQUET 6-4 3-3 Gasquet puts in a single-handed backhand, flat and low over the net as Anderson admires the beauty in the shot. 40-0 with a similar winner from Gasquet, across court this time, and he holds to love as Anderson goes long with his backhand return.
-
GASQUET 6-4 2-3 A love hold for Anderson, who chucks in a second-serve ace for good measure. He must be wondering how he let that game slip in the first set.
-
GASQUET 6-4 2-2 Aha, a classic Gasquet drop as he made for the volley. Niiice. A pretty even game though as Anderson gets some of his mighty frame on the returns, swinging the long arms about as it's 40-30. One swing too far though as his next return lands a yard long.
-
GASQUET 6-4 1-2 Hefty service game from Anderson, who lumps in a couple of big-man aces in for good measure. One clips the net, or seems to but all agreed it didn't. Aces next to hold. Didn't drop a point.
-
GASQUET 6-4 1-1 Gasquet goes long to put Anderson 30-30. He challenges but fails. The next return is long, but Gasquet himself responds in kind and they are at deuce. More slow handclaps but Gasquet holds with some more stable serves.
-
GASQUET 6-4 0-1 Anderson starts off as well as he did on serve for every game bar the one he was broken on; a strong, solid hold.

GASQUET 6-4 SET! Ace; good time to get your first of the night. Now three set points, with another beast of a serve, and he holds to love with a deft backhand volley at the net to close out the first set. Tough start for the local fave before he turned on the style.
-
GASQUET 5-4 Great backhand return from Gasquet, but Anderson responds with a leg-breaking ace. Then another unreturnable serve, but next up he spins what should be a winner well wide. Oh and Gasquet then bullies the bigger man on second serve to bring up deuce. The next serve is too good though but, next point, Anderson puts a winner just wide. Eventually he holds as Gasquet fails to work his next two serves, the last of which is a second-serve ace. Gasquet has to serve for the set.
