Federer just long with a backhand from deep on another break point for the former world number one. Federer bundles a return into the net on Berdych's serve before an ace gives the Czech player a vital hold. Federer to serve with the break.

Berdych continues to fight the good fight in this match with a thumping forehand winner on the run. Not going to slip quietly into the night, but he needs to try to eke out a break from somewhere.

BREAK TO FEDERER! Berdych starting to look fragile. Federer making his opponent work so hard. Berdych being forced to trade blows from the baseline. He misses an overhead smash before thumping a forehand into the net seconds later. Federer leads 1-0 with the break.

SET TO FEDERER! Federer with two break points. Drops in a double fault on the first one, but conjures up a superb forehand winner to get over the line moments later for the first set. An imperious first set by Federer. He leads 1-0 in this match.

Berdych has fought gamely to keep pace with Federer in this set as he has been pushed hard, but he maintains the required levels of pressure by coming up with a couple of big first serves from deuce. Six aces now from him, but Federer will serve for the first set.

Federer was under pressure for the first time on his serve at 30-30, but wonderful defensive work by the Swiss player to move 40-30 clear before a big first serve takes him to within one game of the set.

Berdych finally starting to find some consistency on his own serve. Berdych trails 4-3 with his ace count up to five for the match. Can he break the Federer serve? That is the question.

Berdych moves to advantage twice with Federer finally making an unforced error as a forehand hits the net. Berdych forced to stave off another break point, but he scrambles over the line to stop himself falling two breaks down.

A stunning start by Federer. Coming to the net to serve and volley. Moving well, looking fresh and is really quicker to the punch than Berdych. A love game and a 2-0 lead for the Swiss player.

BREAK TO FEDERER! A double fault from Berdych gives Federer a break point in the opening game of the match. He saves it with a decent first serve as Federer knocks the return long. Federer bangs home another booming volley to bring up the second break point. Another couple of ferocious forehands from Federer, and the Swiss player has the break after his opponent is wide from deep. Impressive start.
