WE’RE GOING TO A SECOND SET TIE-BREAK! Ferrer 6-2 6-6 Seppi. The Spaniard holds. Into a second set decider. Seppi can’t afford to lose this.

Ferrer 6-2 5-6 Seppi. The Italian stands motionless on the baseline with his head tilted towards the tramlines. He seems incapable of building momentum. He loses his rag, crying out some aggressive term which sounds like “Cerdorrrrr”, before recovering to send a stonking forehand winner past Ferrer. He’s booked his ticket for the tie-break. Can Ferrer join him?

The Spaniard relinquishes three break points – although you couldn’t tell it judging from Seppi’s nonplussed response – and fires long after recovering to 30-40. Can Seppi take full advantage of that lapse?

Ferrer 6-2 5-4 Seppi. The crowd let out a disappointed groan as the Italian finds the net. It isn't an exclamation of genuine shock – the lad has missed shots all morning – more one of sadness that this is heading towards a three set rout. Seppi reminds them of his quality with a few pacy first serves. He’s hanging in there.

Ferrer 6-2 5-3 Seppi. Seppi parades his attacking and defensive qualities to earn break point – winning a lengthy baseline duel before refusing to let Ferrer find a winner. The net result is a break point. But he collapses from that moment on, chucking in a couple of unforced errors en route to handing his opponent the game.

BREAK! Ferrer 6-2 4-3 Seppi. Turns out this Seppi lad can play. He caps a free-flowing point with one of the sexiest drop shots Court One has witnessed all tournament for 15-15. But a couple of minutes later he’s staring into space, hand on hip, as he racks up a needless unforced error to gift his rival a break chance. Ferrer makes no mistake; Seppi makes a mistake – the Spaniard’s advantage is restored.

BREAK! Ferrer 6-2 3-3 Seppi. Seppi lets out an exaggerated “Arghhh” when he cannons a backhand into the tramlines. The mistake spurs him into life as he reels off three points on the trot to earn a rare break point. Ferrer nets. All square in the second set. Can the Italian build on this?
