Next up on Chatrier, it's Murray v Nadal in the second semi-final. The players are due on court very soon, but first a few words from a triumphant Djokovic: "The first two sets were very good for me, but he started to play very well. He stopped making errors and it was difficult to keep my concentration. At the end of the day, I'm very happy to be in the final."

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 5-3 GULBIS. It's somewhat out of the blue, but suddenly it's advantage Djokovic. Gublis starts brightly and continues to be the more dominant player when coming into the net, a fact exemplified by a well-controlled volley to start the game in the ascendancy. But he allows Nole to work his way back into it and a well-worked point concludes with Djokovic lashing a winner down the line. An error on the backhand offers up break point and the Serbian takes the game.

- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 4-3 GULBIS. Djokovic overcomes another early case of the jitters to hold to 15. A fizzing crosscourt forehand is a reminder of his class, but his demeanour is giving more and more hope to Gulbis who must fancy his chances of taking this to a fifth if the world number two continues to keep teeing up his outstanding backhand.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 3-3 GULBIS. The world number two feels like he is battling both the sun and Gulbis right now and dons a cap to try and block out the glare. It does nothing to help though. It's far too easy for Ernie who cruises to a love game when Djokovic pushes a simple pick-up shot into the net. It's surprising how much this has affected him mentally.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 3-2 GULBIS. Nole seemed to have thrown his toys out of the pram in the two previous games, but he gets back on track with a service game to love, including a brace of aces. It's developed into an intriguing battle. You'd still fancy the Djoker to come through, but if that temper surfaces again it could give Gulbis more than a glimmer of hope.

- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 2-2 GULBIS. Aces 12 and 13 put Gulbis in the clear and he follows it up with a well-executed overhead, backhand volley. The Latvian then consolidates the break with another big serve to take the game to love. All square in the fourth.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 2-1 GULBIS. Djokovic shouts angrily towards coach, Boris Becker after losing another battle of drop shots at the net. The frustration boils over and he pretty much hands the break back to Gulbis with some poor shot-making. His irritation is clear to see and he smashes his racket to the floor, leading to boos and mocking comments from the crowd.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 2-0 GULBIS. A sudden power shift and within 10 minutes of this fourth set Djokovic has a huge advantage. Gulbis keeps grimacing to suggest he has picked up an injury but it didn't really affect his hitting. The Serb notched up two break points and sealed it at the first time of asking when the 18th seed could only fire into the net.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 1-0 GULBIS. A solid opener for Djokovic as he holds to 15 after seeing off some confident play by an upbeat Gulbis. A brilliantly controlled drop-volley seals it.

SET! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-6 GULBIS. At 15-30 Gulbis faces a real test of his credentials but he comes good with that trademark serve leading to another ace. At set point he does it again and ensures his French Open adventure will at least continue for another set. Surely he can't pull off a minor miracle and overturn the Djoker? One thing's for sure, he has the momentum right now.

BREAK! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-5 GULBIS. Game on? The Gull is in the zone right now and another backhand winner down the line leaves Djokovic chasing the game once again. A thumping shot to the baseline forces the Serb to block long and tees up two break points. Djokovic appeared bothered by the sun while serving but take nothing away from Gulbis, who finally grabbed his break with another winner down the line.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-4 GULBIS. The 18th seed is playing his best tennis of the match. A nonchalant drop shot from the baseline leaves Djokovic rooted to the spot and Ernie goes on to romp through a love game by finishing with another fizzing ace. It's surely now or never for the Latvian. Can he make this purple patch tell to take control of this set?
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 3-3 GULBIS. Wow! The game of the match by some distance. Nole looked to have it wrapped up at 40-0 but completely capitulated to allow Gulbis back in. The pair then played some wonderful tennis with a sensational rally at deuce concluding with Gulbis winning a battle of wills at the net. The Latvian saw two break points go begging and the resilience of Djokovic eventually proved telling as the Serb hit back to earn a massive hold.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 2-3 GULBIS. An ace puts the 18th seed in control at 30-15 but Nole misses a glaring volley at the net and with it a chance to apply some heat. A lovely exchange of drop shots ensues on the final point as Gulbis emerges triumphant with a simple clip down the line with Djokovic stranded on the opposite side of his court.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 2-2 GULBIS. Djokovic proving that it isn't always about pace and power on the serve. A good mix has caught Gulbis by surprise at times and gifted the Serb some quick points that effectively put paid to Ernie's challenge here. All square in this third set.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 1-2 GULBIS. A rasping first serve is just about returned by Djokovic, allowing Gulbis to race into the net and lash home a crosscourt winner at 30-30. It puts The Gull in the driving seat and he duly sees out the game on the next point to secure the hold. Now, can he keep up that pressure on the Djokovic serve and make things interesting?
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 1-1 GULBIS. This game could have gone either way, but in the end Djokovic manages to get through it despite some rare miscues. A wonderful backhand drop shot completely outfoxes Gulbis and is the standout point of a keenly-contested affair, but he then contrives to allow the Latvian a break point with a woeful unforced error on a forehand. The Serb responds and finally shrugs off the challenge with an ace down the middle.
-
- DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 0-1 GULBIS. Spirited stuff from Ernie as he battles back from 0-30 to secure an important hold with four straight points. A trademark ace, his eighth of the contest, seals the game and keeps him in with a shout, albeit a very quiet one.

SET! - DJOKOVIC 6-3 6-3 GULBIS. Novak arguably puts one foot in the final after a nervy finish to this set. At 40-15 the Serb looks to be cruising but a mini wobble allows Gulbis to hit back with a sublime return down the line. Nole regains his composure and sees it out as the Latvian twice miscues to hand his opponent a huge advantage. It's a long, long way back for the 18th seed from here.
