GAME, SET AND MATCH! - FEDERER 6-3 6-1 7-6 RUUD. The Swiss Maestro moves into round four after clinching the straight sets victory courtesy of an edgy 10-8 success in the tie break. The No.3 seed nails a precision smash to conclude after two hours and 11 minutes. Ruud started well and improved late in the second set after being blown away for a while.
TB LATEST: Federer had two match points at 6-4, but Ruud fought hard to save both. It's six apiece and another change of ends.
TB LATEST: It's 3-3 at the change of ends. Federer was leading 3-1.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 6-6 RUUD. Federer is pushed to deuce, but never truly looks in danger as he sets up the tie break.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 5-6 RUUD. How Ruud must wish he played like this throughout. There's a conviction and determination to his play that went AWOL for a while. He digs out a hold to 30 here as Federer whistles a backhand millimetres wide. The Norwegian is now guaranteed the minimum of a TB.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 5-5 RUUD. Federer's concentration is firmly switched on now. He knows Ruud has warmed to this and adjusted his tactics to positive effect, but it's not enough to snare the break on this occasion.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 4-5 RUUD. The 20-year old is refusing to go out with whimper now. He claims a convincing hold to 15. Federer will now serve to stay in the set.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 4-4 RUUD. Federer lands a timely ace to reach deuce from break point down. The Swiss then gets a fortunate net chord that clips the corner of the baseline and completely bamboozles Ruud. That was rather unlucky for the Norwegian.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 3-4 RUUD. Casper seems to be enjoying the occasion again now. A super backhand lob is the pick of the points in a game rife with eye-catching winners. He produces a couple of fearsome forehands to fend off a pair of break points before wriggling to a hold from deuce.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 3-3 RUUD. Federer appears to be doing just enough now. He eases to a hold to 15 to level it up. One last surge in the next couple of games should be enough to see him through in straight sets.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 2-3 RUUD. Casper is no doubt happy to take advantage of this Federer dip and get himself a few more games on the board.
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 2-2 RUUD. The 20-time Grand Slam champion rallies from 0-30 with a succession of quick serves to quash any hope for Ruud and consolidate that break back.
BREAK! - FEDERER 6-3 6-1 1-2 RUUD. Disappointing from Casper. He knew he had to hold to give Federer some food for thought, but he can't quite get it done from deuce and the Maestro breaks straight back.
BREAK! - FEDERER 6-3 6-1 0-2 RUUD. After bringing his A-game for much of Set 2, it's still surprising to see Federer hit a lull. The Swiss hammers a forehand into the net to cough up a break and give Rudd a major lift!
FEDERER 6-3 6-1 0-1 RUUD. Despite being overwhelmed for much of Set 2, Ruud had some good moments towards its conclusion and manages to carry on some of the positives. He comfortably holds to get a game on the board much earlier this time around.
SET! - FEDERER 6-3 6-1 RUUD. Federer got a bit casual towards the end and had to fend off break point, but the inevitable eventually happened as he moved up a gear to serve out for a two-set lead.
