Dominic Thiem is up next against Pablo Cuevas! Can last year's finalist seal a place in the second week?

Thiem has got there in the end, battling against a plucky Cuevas, and sometimes himself. But the 2018 finalist is through to the second week for the fourth year in a row. Three three-setters for the Austrian so far, which will be of concern though.

This match has taken all sorts of twists and turns and after Cuevas starts missing Thiem gets two break points. A spectacular return sets him up to move ahead and now the Austrian will serve for the match!

The momentum has swung back in the direction of Cuevas. Thiem seems powerless to stop the onslaught from the Uruguayan and some of his errors from the second set are back. He's serving to stay in the fourth...

Cuevas is going nowhere, breaking back in an epic game. He hit some spectacular winners there - a lob, who shots right into the corner and he's back level at 3-3!

This match is certainly Thiem's to lose now. He has the break in the first game of the fourth set.

This time Thiem does not make any errors with his set point opportunities, his serve forcing Cuevas to return wide. Last year's finalist is one set away from the second week!

Thiem sees his first set point chance come and go. Cuevas lives to fight another game in the third set but it's the Austrian's to lose.

If this third set wasn't already Thiem's to lose, it certainly is now as Cuevas pushes a forehand long to allow the Austrian to move into a double-break lead.

Thiem is looking a lot better in the third set, though he hasn't quite hit the heights he scaled in the second. He lead 3-1 and is good value for it.

After his poor end to the second set, Thiem starts the third brilliantly, crafting a break point through sheer willpower and moving ahead when Cuevas sends a shot long.

Thiem starts a must-win service game with a magnificent winner but a series of poor shots give Cuevas two sets points. The first is saved but a poor drop shot followed by a sliced backhand into the net allow the Uruguayan to draw level.

Thiem puts more pressure on the Cuevas serve as he tries to take control of the set but the Uruguayan gets the hold and is now just one game away from taking the second set.

Just as in the first set, being broken has brought new life to Thiem's play. The first two break point chances he crafts are saved but the third is taken with a wonderful sliced backhand!

A double fault hands Cuevas a chance to edge ahead in the second set and the Uruguayan produces a fine return right at the feet of Thiem to seal it!

Thiem looks to make inroads on the Cuevas serve but unforced errors cost him and the Uruguayan holds. The second set has been far more even than the first so far.

Cuevas grinds out a creditable hold in the first game of the second set but Thiem showed no signs of it affecting his flow on his own serve.

It was a sloppy start to the set from Dominic Thiem but he's since stamped his dominance over Cuevas. The veteran saves three more set points but an ace on the next one seals it for Thiem.

Cuevas stems the Thiem tide and saves a set point from the Austrian. But last year's finalist will now have chance to close out the first on his own serve.
