She's got the job done, the young Canadian, and she's rewarded with a place in a Grand Slam semi final for the second time in a row. That was a strange, strange match, which turned this way and that thanks to inconsistency from both women. In the end Bouchard did just enough, but Suarez Navarro will be kicking herself having worked her way into commanding positions and then throwing it awawy.

GAME SET AND MATCH EUGENIE BOUCHARD! 7-6 2-6 7-5. A couple of late calls mean the umpire is out of his chair twice and two overrules mean that two points must be replayed. It's tense at 15-15 and 30-30 but too tense for Bouchard on match points, who wastes one with a double fault and another with a wild forehand. She makes no mistake on the third one, though, as a deep venomous forehand does not come back.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 6-5 SUAREZ NAVARRO. It's happened again. As in the first set, Suarez Navarro has thrown away a commanding lead and is now staring defeat in the face. The drive volley is used to customarily devastating effect on two occasions as Bouchard brings up double break point and takes the second one. Is this it? Bouchard to serve for it. Don't get wobbly now.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 5-5 SUAREZ NAVARRO. You wouldn't have put your house on Bouchard holding her serve to stay in the set there, but stay in the set she does. And how. Her hitting is powerful, thoughtful and accurate and it's a third consecutive love service game. Confident stuff.

Total points won: Bouchard 95 - 95 Suarez Navarro. Neck and neck.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 4-5 SUAREZ NAVARRO. The Spaniard stems the flow of points to go to 15-0 but, as in the first set, Bouchard is all over her second serve. 15-30 is a hugely important point and Suarez Navarro wins it with a courageous backhand down the line. She then goes on to hold, and what an important hold it is. A break might have meant curtains, but as it is the pressure moves onto Bouchard who will have to serve to stay in the match.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 4-4 SUAREZ NAVARRO. 12 consecutive points for Bouchard! That's three consecutive love games. We're level at 4-4 in the third set. Game on!

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 3-4 SUAREZ NAVARRO. I should have known. Suarez Navarro is too light on the accelerator and stalls the aforementioned engine. Bouchard breaks back and does so to love. We're back on serve and this match still can't make its mind up which way to go. Impossible to call from here.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 2-4 SUAREZ NAVARRO. A love service game from Bouchard is a welcome stemming of the tide. Can she put any pressure on the Suarez Navarro serve next time out?
-
BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 1-4 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Remember what I said about not kicking on when taking the initiative? Well thankfully that's not happened again. Suarez Navarro races to 40-15 whereupon she puts away a brave crosscourt forehand winner. Having got herself in the driving seat, this time she manages to do up her seatbelt and start the engine. Can she roll on to the finish line?

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 1-3 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Another break of serve! Both players have been flakey at times but Bouchard has been the flakier of the two. She goes 0-15 down but that trusty drive volley gets her out of trouble. At 15-30 a ball comes up kindly off the net chord but Suarez Navarro can't put it away. A frustrated Bouchard commits another unforced error and it's break point. Suarez Navarro converts for back to back breaks.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 1-2 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Thank you, Carla Suarez Navarro. A cool comfortable hold restores some sanity to proceedings.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 1-1 SUAREZ NAVARRO. And now Bouchard! This is frustrating to watch! Having just broken to love, she herself is now broken to love and her early advantage in this third set disappears. I want to grab them both by the lapels and give them a good shake. Sort it out girls!

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 1-0 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Neither of these two know what to do with initiative. Both of them have taken it at various points in this match but then crumbled. Suarez Navarro is the latest not to kick on having taken an advantage. She wins the second set and is then broken to love in the opening game of the third.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-6 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Suarez Navarro gets the better of Bouchard in the opening exchanges and at 15-30, Bouchard stops playing as she thinks a ball is out. It clearly isn't - silly decision and she loses the point as a result. Two break points and Suarez Navarro takes the second one, along with the set, and we're heading for a decider!
-
BOUCHARD 7-6 2-5 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Suarez Navarro has no problems consolidating her break and moves to 5-2. She may remember leading 5-2 in the previous set. What happened thereafter she probably needs to put to the back of her mind now.

BOUCHARD 7-6 2-4 SUAREZ NAVARRO. I knew that would happen. We thought we were nicely ticking along on serve but how wrong we were. We go to deuce and Suarez Navarro works a brilliant point before stepping inside the baseline and firing a backhand winner. Bouchard then hits another unforced error to provide yet another twist in this topsy turby tale.
-
BOUCHARD 7-6 2-3 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Another rare quick game and it looks like we've got a bit of consistency back. We're on serve in the second set. You know - you hold you serve I'll hold mine. Back and forth. That is happening again.
-
BOUCHARD 7-6 2-2 SUAREZ NAVARRO. Eugenie Bouchard loves a drive volley. She'll never turn down an invitation to thump through the back of the ball in mid-air. It helps her to 40-0 and she then crunches a forehand winner from the baseline.
-
Bouchard was well and truly in the driving seat. She had started to find the groove and she was a set and a break up. But the unforced errors have crept back in these last couple of games.
