What an incredible match that was! Errani held serve just once, and that was the story of the match. It was like a child patting a serve over and an overly-keen parent hammering it back every time with no regard for the poor thing's feelings. A first Grand Slam semi for Petkovic. Some work on the serve on the practice courts for Errani.

GAME SET AND MATCH ANDREA PETKOVIC! 6-2 6-2. It’s another break and it’s all over! The serve gets the usual treatment but Errani looks good when she gets a foothold in the point, putting away a big crosscourt forehand at 15-30. A wild Petkovic shot takes us to 40-30 and after long rally Errani nets to bring up deuce. Petkovic is inconsistent and we have a couple of deuces but on match point a monster return gets her on top in the rally and a defensive Errani backhand drops wide.

ERRANI 2-6 2-5 PETKOVIC. This is better from Errani and she draws errors from Petkovic to bring up two break points. A routine, forehand, though, is inexplicably fired long and Petkovic does well to save the second of the two break points. From deuce it's perfect from Petkovic, hitting powerfully and deep and finishing the game off with a forehand approach and forehand winner. Errani will have to serve to stay in the match. She's held serve just once all match. Doesn't bode well, does it?

ERRANI 2-6 2-4 PETKOVIC. We weren't on serve for very long at all! Petkovic is once again all over the Errani serve and it helps her to 0-30 whereupon she finishes a long rally with a searing crosscourt backhand. The wind disrupts Petkovic on the first break point but yet another return winner flies past Errani on the second.

ERRANI 2-6 2-3 PETKOVIC. A hold! Finally a hold! Everything is normal in the world again. Petkovic backs up her latest break with Errani committing the kind of unforced errors that characterised her first set. We're back on serve now. Remember what that feels like? Wonder how long it will last.

ERRANI 2-6 2-2 PETKOVIC. Another game another break and it is difficult to overstate just how much the Errani serve is being abused. Petkovic is moving up and into position around the edge of the service box and just waiting for the meek serve to come before she swats it away. Three unforced errors mean deuce but in the end the return does enough damage to secure another break.

ERRANI 2-6 2-1 PETKOVIC. Have I missed something? I thought in tennis you held your serve, then every once in a while someone breaks. Well these two are flipping the concept of tennis on its head. Three games now in this second set and they've all gone against serve. And convincingly so. Here Errani races to 0-40 and gets the job done on her second break point.

ERRANI 2-6 1-1 PETKOVIC. Well well well. Errani's advantage didn't last long. What was Petkovic up to in that last game? Here she does what she was doing in the last set, stepping in and picking off the Errani second serve in brutal fashion at 0-30. Break point and Errani has a difficult lob to contend with, she's off balance and puts it wide. Level again.

ERRANI 2-6 1-0 PETKOVIC. Amazing. Errani stems the tide, breaking to 15 in the opening game of the second set. Unforced errors creep into the Petkovic game and at 15-40, Errani is well on top, going big on her forehand until the Petkovic defence finally buckles.
-
What a strange set. Errani started the brighter but she was then blown away by Petkovic, who's really playing well, dictating the points and going after the Errani serve, especially the second serve. Can Errani get herself back into this match?

ERRANI 2-6 PETKOVIC. Errani is absolutely hating this! She looks disgruntled and at 0-15 can't seem bothered to get down and dig a volley out from her feet. That's 0-30, then, and a double fault brings up three set points. Errani is more aggressive and saves one with a backhand winner but when Petkovic approaches the net the Italian can only dump her passing shot into the net. Six straight games for Petkovic. Incredible stuff.

ERRANI 2-5 PETKOVIC. It's one way traffic at the moment. Love service game from Petkovic. She's playing well but Errani was awful in that game, a mis-hit drop shot nearly hitting the umpire's chair and a wide forehand on game point.

ERRANI 2-4 PETKOVIC. Petkovic is in the zone and the winners are starting to flow from her racquet. It goes to 0-30 and Errani realises she might have to be more proactive, taking it on to get a point back. Petkovic, though, is dominant, getting on top in the rallies, bringing up two break points and converting at the first time of asking. Back to back breaks now.

The brollies have started to go up around the Philippe Chatrier court. Play goes on for now, but the conditions look miserable - it's windy out there too.
-
ERRANI 2-3 PETKOVIC. Petkovic has got that slow start out of her system and is really finding her rhythm now. She's hitting confidently and accurately, taking the game to Errani and it results in a comfortable hold and three consecutive games.

ERRANI 2-2 PETKOVIC. This time it's Errani's turn to play a sloppy drop shot and Petkovic is all over it to drop it over herself. Errani nets a backhand then when she has to second serve, Petkovic steps forward until she's practically standing inside the service box and sure enough is all over it, unleashing a backhand winner. She has three break points, the first is saved but she has a drive volley on the second and makes no mistake. Back on terms.
-
ERRANI 2-1 PETKOVIC. Petkovic gets herself up and running on the scoreboard. Fantastic rally at 15-15 as Errani draws Petkovic to the net, but it's the German who tucks the volley away after a neat exchange. A big backhand winner seals the game and brings out a roar of approval.
-
ERRANI 2-0 PETKOVIC. An easy break and now an easy hold for Errani. Once again Petkovic is slow to the net and Errani passes her with ease once more. It's a love service game to consolidate the early break.

ERRANI 1-0 PETKOVIC. Errani draws first blood! Petkovic clinches the first point but then she gets a drop shot horribly wrong and Errani has all the time in the world to track it down and tuck it away. Errani then shows her opponent how a drop shot is done to bring up two break points. She wastes the first, but Petkovic approaches the net on the second and is duly picked off.

Here we go! Petkovic to get us underway...
