The Spaniard clinched victory in one hour and 19 minutes against an opponent who will be pleased with her impact in Paris, despite seeing her fairytale run come to an end.

BREAK! - MUGURUZA 7-5 5-3 ROGERS. A massive moment in this match. Rogers had looked to have made it competitive again but collapses, dropping her serve to love. Muguruza will now serve for the match.

MUGURUZA 7-5 4-3 ROGERS. Muguruza settles herself down with an important hold. A fifth ace plays its part as she takes the game to 30 to apply the brakes to Shelby's charge.

BREAK! - MUGURUZA 7-5 2-0 ROGERS. This is running away from Rogers now. The fairytale looks to be ending here. Muguruza has the bit between her teeth and breaks to 15 as her opponent blazes a simple winner at the net long. Rogers' belief is shot.

MUGURUZA 7-5 1-0 ROGERS. Muguruza maintains the momentum with a confident opening service game. She has the scoreboard advantage and that all-important one-set lead.

BREAK! - MUGURUZA 5-5 ROGERS. So close for the American - and yet so far away. She serves at 40-30 and set point but is overpowered by the Spaniard who combines hard-hitting with some fine drive volleys to break back at the best possible moment.

MUGURUZA 4-5 ROGERS. A rasping drive volley seals an easy love hold for Muguruza. She's the player doing the attacking now, but has it come too late to save the set? Rogers to serve for it next.

MUGURUZA 3-5 ROGERS. The American hopeful escapes with her advantage still intact. A third ace puts her in control at 40-30 but Muguruza powers back and has two BPs. The Spaniard seems to be in the ascendancy but makes some errors that let the underdog off the hook.

MUGURUZA 3-4 ROGERS. The Spaniard is warming to the task. It's a comfortable hold to 15 as she starts to find some rhythm with her groundstrokes.
