GAME, SET AND MATCH! - BACSINSZKY 6-2 6-4 WILLIAMS.V. Timea serves out the match with her first ace to oust the 2002 finalist in straight sets. It takes her one hour and 16 minutes. There's no doubt the mid-game winning streak was crucial. The eighth seed could yet meet another Williams in the semis, if she safely navigates the last eight.

BACSINSZKY 6-2 5-4 WILLIAMS.V. Venus asks the serve out question of Timea. The ninth seed chooses a good moment to serve her first ace of the match to stay in contention if the Swiss has a wobble so close to the finish line.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-2 4-3 WILLIAMS.V. Disappointment for the 2002 finalist who sees the foothold she thought she had in the game rudely taken from under her. Timea hits straight back to break and she has the edge as we enter the business end of the set.

Venus battling - but it was easy enough for her sister over on Chatrier.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-2 3-3 WILLIAMS.V. Venus needs three bites of the cherry but gets the break back to give herself hope of an unlikely turnaround.

BACSINSZKY 6-2 3-1 WILLIAMS.V.A shake of the head from Venus. She battles back from 40-15 down to make deuce but can't get her teeth into the game to apply the pressure. Timea serves a second double fault of the match but it doesn't stop her maintaining her advantage. The momentum is still hers.

BACSINSZKY 6-2 2-1 WILLIAMS.V. Respite! Venus gets on the board and ends a crushing run of games against her.

BACSINSZKY 6-2 2-0 WILLIAMS.V. This is a real hot streak for Timea and a serious rot for Williams. It depends on your point of view, but that's eight in a row for the Swiss now. The eighth seed saves BP and tussles with the American at deuce before coming through some tough tennis to consolidate.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 6-2 1-0 WILLIAMS.V. It's seven in a row now and it's looking bleak for Venus. A fired up Timea roars to triple BP and although the American saves one, she is powerless to deny an opponent who is in the zone now.

Two games to warm up - and then it was very much Timea time!

SET! - BACSINSZKY 6-2 WILLIAMS.V. Timea clinches the set with a thunderous forehand winner to Venus' right flank. It takes her 30 minutes as she hits back from 2-0 to take six games in a row. She's in the zone and looking a strong favourite to make the last eight from here.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 5-2 WILLIAMS.V. Another break and that will surely be it for Venus' hopes in this set. The Swiss has real momentum and breaks for the third time in a row on her second BP of the game. She will now serve for the set.

BACSINSZKY 4-2 WILLIAMS.V. The Swiss romps to a love hold to consolidate and take a grip of this opening set. Venus looks at the floor in dismay.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 3-2 WILLIAMS.V. Three in a row for Timea who has responded well to that early surge from Venus. A delicious drop shot tees up double break point and she gets it on the second when the American snaps a miscue into the net.

BACSINSZKY 2-2 WILLIAMS.V. All square. Timea gets off the hook after blowing a 40-0 lead. Venus drives long attacking the serve and the eighth seed levels it up.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 1-2 WILLIAMS.V. Timea needed a response - and she delivers. Venus can't pull clear, failing to consolidate as the Swiss takes advantage of some service misfires to break back. Intriguing stuff so far.

BREAK! - BACSINSZKY 0-2 WILLIAMS.V. A crosscourt two-handed backhand winner looks to put Timea in control at 40-30, but Venus bites back to make deuce. A long lob from the Swiss offers up a BP and the ninth seed makes it count, forcing a tight backhand error into the net. Great start for Venus.
