GAME, SET AND MATCH! - WILLIAMS 6-3 6-2 NARA. What a way to finish. Serena thunders down a succession of aces to easily serve out the match after one hour and seven minutes on court.

WILLIAMS 6-3 5-2 NARA. Magnificent, dogged determination from Nara. She looks beaten as Serena lines up a crosscourt pass on match point, but the American can only find the net. From there the Japanese battles bravely under pressure and edges the hold to force SW23 to serve it out.

WILLIAMS 6-3 5-1 NARA. It's five games in a row now as Williams consolidates the double break with an easy hold to 15.

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-3 4-1 NARA. The veteran American seems to be hitting some rather impressive heights right now. She unleashes a barrage of winners to break once more and take a giant stride towards round three.

WILLIAMS 6-3 3-1 NARA. SW23 consolidates with a hold to 30. The three-time French Open champion finishes off the game by skidding to a halt on her charge forward and adjusting to steer a backhand winner into the open court.

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 6-3 2-1 NARA. Serena helps herself to triple break point. Nara fends off two, but the 23-time Grand Slam champion won't be denied. She's a set and a break to the good.

WILLIAMS 6-3 1-1 NARA. Serena is looking sharp. She's been far more consistent than in her round one performance. She's dictating and dominating over a succession of points now and that can only be bad news for Nara.

WILLIAMS 6-3 0-1 NARA. Kurumi dusts herself down and goes again. She starts Set 2 with a confidence-boosting hold to 15.

SET! - WILLIAMS 6-3 NARA. Williams raises the bar at the business end of the set and serves it out to 15 in 37 minutes.

BREAK! - WILLIAMS 5-3 NARA. Serena holds with ease before bringing the power on her return game. This time Nara has no answer as she's broken to 15. SW will now serve for the set.

WILLIAMS 3-3 NARA. The diminutive Japanese corks a forehand down the line that clips the net and just about bobbles over. She apologies, but it merely serves to inspire Serena who hits back to tee up break point. Nara ends up saving six in total in an epic game before somehow conjuring up the hold!

WILLIAMS 3-2 NARA. Serena isn't having it all her own way. Nara makes it interesting at 40-30 but can't force deuce as Williams edges her in a super point to conclude.

WILLIAMS 2-2 NARA. Kurumi corks an ace beyond Serena's to conclude a comfortable hold to 15.

WILLIAMS 2-1 NARA. Serena holds to love as we kick off the match with three routine service games.
