Andy Murray is taking on Florian Mayer of Germany in the quarter-finals of the Rome Masters.

GAME, SET AND MATCH MURRAY! All over. He holds serve with some ease to book his spot in the last four. A terrific comeback after losing the opening set. He races through the final set and could face Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals, providing the Serbian can see off Robin Soderling later on.

MURRAY 5-1 - BREAK TO MURRAY - A 5-1 lead for Murray. He breaks to love and will serve for a spot in the last four. Some fine shots from Murray. Playing a serious of fine shots from the baseline that a misfiring Mayer finds too hot to handle.

MURRAY 4-1 - Few problems there for Murray in establishing a 4-1 lead. Anything that Mayer leaves short is swept away with some relish. Murray now two games away from a spot in the last four.

MURRAY 3-1 - Mayer halts his losing run at eight, but he is still adrift in this set. Difficult to see how he is going to recover this one unless Murray suffers a lapse in concentration. Murray serves for a 4-1 advantage.

MURRAY 3-0 - That nervy opening set looks to be a thing of the past as Murray proves too hot in that game to put another game on the board. He holds a 3-0 lead in the third set. Trying to become the first British player of the open era to reach the last four. Looking good to achieve that goal here.

MURRAY 2-0 - BREAK TO MURRAY! Strong start to this set as the Scotsman moves two games clear. A seventh straight game and Murray is looking bound for the semi-finals. He has found his range and Mayer is beginning to look like the 28th seed. Difficult to see a way back for the German here.

MURRAY 1-0 - Murray managing to send some pulverising forehands into the body of Mayer to back the German player up. He levels at 30-30 before a thumping forehand winner from the back of the court sees him move 40-30 clear. He finally sees it through with another steaming forehand to claim a sixth straight game for a 1-0 lead in this set. All the pressure on Mayer, clearly.

MURRAY 6-1 - SET TO MURRAY! The Scotsman comes to life as he rattles a backhand winner across court to break for a third time in the set. He wins it 6-1 to level at 1-1 in the match. All the momentum is with Murray, who is looking a whole lot more relaxed. He is serving at the start of the third set.

MURRAY 5-1 - Murray has turned this match on its head. He looks a different player as he holds to love in that game. He played one delightful point in that game as he brought Mayer to the net with a drop shot from the back of the court before sending a lob spinning over the German. 5-1 clear, and Murray is looking sharp.

MURRAY 4-1 - BREAK TO MURRAY! Murray suddenly opening up his shoulders, relaxing and letting the shots flow from his racket as he moves 4-1 ahead in the second set with two breaks. A few fine returns in this set. Looking very good for the Scotsman as moves two breaks to the good in this set.

MURRAY 3-1 - Murray goes straight down the middle to move 40-30 clear and is shouting "C'mon.". He looks to cement the break only to pull a forehand wide from the back of the court. Mayer knocks an attempted drop shot on the backhand wide of the target. Mayer misses a forehand on the next point as Murray moves two games clear.

Murray 2-1 BREAK TO MURRAY! Mayer puts away another fine smash before he comes to the net to convert a winning volley at the net to stave off two break points. Murray slaims a return to the feet of Mayer to bring up a third break point, but another decent return from Murray is good enough for a second break in the set. He leads 2-1.

MURRAY 1-1 BREAK TO MAYER! Murray trying to lift his level of performance, but there are too many errors slipping off his racket. A slack forehand flies wide of the target before a stunning sliced backhand winner down the line is good enough to see Mayer level at 1-1. Back on serve.

Murray 1-0 BREAK TO MURRAY! Court getting a bit of a hosing down from the officials. Mayer enjoying his break under the parasol, but he is on the backfoot at the outset of the second set as Murray brings up three break points. He wins a marathon rally at 40-15 ahead to break for the first time in the match as Mayer knocks a backhand wide of the target.

MURRAY 1-6 SET TO MAYER! A double fault and no aces from Murray sees him slip 0-30 behind before Mayer hammers a swinging return beyond Murray to bring up three set points. Murray saves a couple of them, but he empties an attempted smash into the net after Mayer tried to lob him. All Mayer at the moment. A comfortable first set for the German. Murray in a spot of bother here.

MURRAY 1-5 Murray manages to bring up two break points, but he nudges a backhand wide of the target at 40-15 before Mayer converts an overhead after a fine first serve. Mayer serving well and generating some pace on his groundstrokes as a big second serve sets up the winning point of the game with Murray looking on as a forehand from Mayer flashes beyond him. Close, but no breaks yet for Murray.

MURRAY 1-4 - DOUBLE BREAK TO MAYER! Murray making a lot of noise after falling two breaks behind in the opening set. He looks a bit hot under the collar, but at the moment it is Mayer who is keeping his cool. The pace and direction of Mayer's shots are good enough to get the job done as he wins two points from 30-30 to move three games clear. Work to be done clearly for Murray.

MURRAY 1-3 - The Scot forcing the issue more in this game as he gets to 30-30 before a big backhand on Mayer's second serve brings up a break point. Murray looking to turn the screw, but he empties a forehand into the net attempting a passing shot on the forehand side. A searing forehand brings up a second chance to break for Murray, but Mayer shows his class to survive the Murray charge as couple of lovely little shots, including a timely lob, enables him to move 3-1 clear.

MURRAY 1-2 - Murray enjoys his first service game won in his first quarter-final in Rome. Enjoying the comforts of an ice towel after holding to love in that game. A far better game from Murray, moving well and a good variety of shots is more than enough to close to within one game in the opening stages.

MURRAY 0-2 - Murray not really getting a read on the Mayer serve as the German quickly cements the break to open a 2-0 lead early on this match. Breaks not so vital on the slower surface of clay, but the next game coming up is important for Murray. Doesn't want to become detached at this early stage of the match.
