Wow! Another immense performance from the Serb who continues to confound expectations by still having something in the tank. With a week off next, Djokovic surely now will go into the French Open as the favourite over Nadal?

NADAL 4-6 4-6 - GAME, SET & MATCH - A slightly comedic final point as first Nadal and then Djokovic get a net cord with the ball sitting up as a result. But in the end it is Djokovic comes out on top as he has time at the net to let the ball sit up before firing it across court with such relish that even though Nadal is there, he cannot return it over the net

DJOKOVIC WINS! AGAIN! The Serbian world number two is the Rome Masters champion and remains unbeaten in 37 matches this year!

Fantastic from Nadal, would you expect anything less, as he also saves the third by pushing Djokovic deep on the defensive and drawing the error on a cross court backhand. But a fourth chance is forthcoming for the Serb as another huge forehand sees Nadal hit well long on the full stretch. Its a FOURTH MATCH POINT for DJOKOVIC ...

Nadal saves the second with a bravely massive first serve down the centre of the court that the flailing Djokovic cannot return. Just one match point remains for the Serb now ...

The first goes begging when Djokovic draws himself up to pull the trigger on a backhand down the line only to mis-fire and send it flying well wide. Two more remaining though ...

MATCH POINT DJOKOVIC as another lengthy rally ends when Nadal hits into the net. This is huge from the Serb ...

Djokovic clearly, and understandable, wants to get this done in this game as he produces a very aggressive first point which ends only when Nadal hits a forehand long. And Djokovic doubles his lead with a feocious backhand winner across court. Gah! This is getting tense now ...

NADAL 4-6 4-5 - The rain starts to fall again as a backhand drop shot from Djokovic catches the top of the tape and sits up for Nadal who races in to send it back before finding a smash winner on the next shot to sneak ahead in the game. Djokovic levels with a backhand winner across court and goes on to hold from deuce with another huge off-forehand into the corner that Nadal can only return wide. Nadal will have to serve to stay in it after the change of ends!

NADAL 4-6 4-4 - Again the crowd get ansty as Djokovic emerges on the right side of a net cord but it's his only point of the game as Nadal goes on to hold with an ace and a sliced backhand drop shot that stays so low that the Serb cannot get back up and over the net

NADAL 4-6 3-4 - Again Djokovic appears to be struggling a little with fatigue as he hits into the net for Nadal to take a 15-30 lead against serve. But the Serb bounces back in impressive fashion with a ferocious forehand winner that catches the back of the line and another length forehand that Nadal can only return into the net. That's enough to bouy the Serb who then jogs back to the chair with a clenched fist. He's potentially just two games away

NADAL 4-6 3-3 - Nadal earns himself a couple of game points but Djokovic comes straight back at him, levelling with a slightly lucky net cord that the crowd do not like at all. But luck evens itself out and Nadal gets a net cord on the next point before going on to hold when Djokovic hits a forehand into the net

NADAL 4-6 2-3 - Nadal pulls the trigger on a forehand winner down the line only to see the ball sail long although he makes amends on the next point by dinking a forehand across court at the angle off another poor Djokovic drop shot. There are a few signs of tiredness as Djokovic hits a routine backhand into the net but Nadal leaves a couple of returns short and the Serb recovers in time to hold and stay out in front

NADAL 4-6 2-2 - It's relentless from Djokovic as he steps inside the baseline once again, forcing Nadal deep and drawing consecutive defensive errors to earn himself two more break points. The first goes begging when the Serb hits a forehand long down the line as does the second when Djokovic hits into the net and Nadal goes on to hold with a yell of "vamos" when the Serb returns long off the backhand wing

NADAL 4-6 1-2 - BREAK - Nadal pushes Djokovic wide on the forehand wing and the Serb hits into the net post to hand his opponent an immediate break back point. It's a point Nadal takes full advantage of, again pushing Djokovic wide with the Serb this time hitting just wide on the drop shot attempt. Nadal bounces back to the chair back on serve in this second set

NADAL 4-6 0-2 - BREAK - This time Djokovic does seal the break, stepping inside the baseline to keep Nadal pinned back and forcing the Spaniard to go for something different. But that something different is a sliced backhand down the line and it floats just wide to hand Djokovic the break

Nadal saves it with an emphatic smash winner but slips on the next point as he eagerly attempts to chase down another solid, albeit not unreachable, backhand from Djokovic. Again Nadal saves it, following a forehand down the line to an outstanding length with a smash winner but again the Serb makes Nadal uncomfortable enough on the next point to force and error and earn himself a break point ...

A beautifully struck forehand from Nadal lands right on the baseline and Djokovic returns long to hand the Spaniard a game point. But the Serb is not done yet as he swats away an off-forehand winner on a decent first serve from Nadal. There was nothing Nadal could do about that, the ball just sat up in Djokovic's wheelhouse. And the Serb earns himself a break point, displaying some awesome power to draw a forehand error down the line from Nadal ...

NADAL 4-6 0-1 - Nadal dinks a neat backhand volley over the net across court to push Djokovic in the opening game of the second set but the Serb holds without too much drama when he short forehand dies on the court too quickly for Rafa to get there

Incredibly, King of Clay Rafael Nadal, who has been nigh on invincible on the red dirt since winning his first French Open back in 2005, looks rattled. What can he do now? Can he push this to a third set? You have to favour the fresher Spaniard the longer this clash goes on
