Zverev has impressed today and will be happy with how he has kicked off his 2020 French Open campaign. Three match points and he takes the first one. It's all over. Smiles on both players' faces at the end and it was a fine display from the sixth seed.

Novak strokes the ball into the net and Zverev is now a game away after 35 minutes of this third set which has been a bit of a grind.

Absolute no nonsense love service game from Zverev. Just two games to go for the German to seal his place in the second round.

We're still going here after an hour and 50 minutes out on Philippe Chatrier with Novak managing to hold an awkward service game.

The roof is now on at Philippe-Chatrier as the rain begins to pour. This is very comfortable for Zverev now. He's broken the Novak serve and the Austrian looks to be out of ideas.

Zverev takes the second set after 31 minutes and he looks well on his way to a place in the second round. The 23-year-old's serve is proving too much for Novak.

Zverev breaks the Novak serve once again as the rain begins to pour. Zverev has won two of his four break points in this set while the Austrian has not registered a single break this set. This has been some turnaround as Novak came out of the blocks very quickly at the beginning of this match.

Three break points for Zverev who plays a fantastic forehand slice which Novak applauds. The German takes his second opportunity with aplomb as he forces Novak back before smashing it home.

ZVEREV 6-5 NOVAK - What a turnaround! It looked at one point like this set was slipping out of Zverev's grasp, but the German fights back in epic fashion to now lead by a break. Great fortitude from the German. He serves for the set...

ZVEREV 4-5 NOVAK - Novak concedes two unforced early errors. Is the pressure getting to him? He fluffs his third first serve, but Zverev hits it long to let Novak back into the game. Zverev then absolutely leathers a shot down the line that Novak can only dump onto his own side and we're at break point.
An error from Zverev takes it to 40-30.
Novak serves, Zverev takes the sting out of the rally and Novak forces a return into the next and it's now 5-4.

ZVEREV 2-5 NOVAK - A hapless, unforced error from Novak is followed by a hapless, unforced error by Zverev. All the Austrian needs to do is keep his nerve to take the first set. Novak serves to 40-15, before Zverev races forward to take a slow, short dink forward and send it past his opponent. The two then slug it out at 30-40 before a fierce drive down the line from Zverev leaves Novak stranded. Deuce.
Novak forces his opponent to stretch to his left, allowing him to smash the return and move onto advantage, and he moves Zverev around the court to open up space to move to 5-2 ahead.

An exquisite drop shot from Novak takes him to 30-30, and the next rally sees Zverev send the ball out of bounds. It's now deuce, and another wild shot from Zverev gives the server advantage. A strong return from deep for Zverev beats his opponent to get back to 40-40. Novak then wins back another advantage and after a long, long rally, another unforced error down the line from Zverev sees Novak goes 4-1 up.

Novak breaks! The 91st seeded Austrian goes two ahead. The rain is comin down now and there could be the distraction of the roof coming in.
